2013 Spring Preview – Missouri

Missouri’s inaugural season in the SEC was not exactly memorable. The Tigers struggled to a 5-7 season (2-6 SEC) and were blown out in their season finale 59-29 by fellow SEC newcomer Texas A & M. Nick Witthaus, the owner and operator of Tigerboard.com, the largest online community of Missouri Tiger fans, will be helping us with our 2013 spring preview of Missouri.

The biggest issue Missouri has is it’s lack of quality depth. The first stringers are a solid group but after that the back-ups just aren’t where they need to be to compete and win week in and week out in the SEC. You can see this pretty evidently in the Georgia game from last year where Missouri hangs with Georgia for three quarters but after some injuries and fatigue the wheels came off.

They have to beef up their recruiting. They signed twenty kids this year and most are three stars so that’s not bad. But then again, it’s not keeping up with the SEC Elite. One thing I noticed is that they only got one kid from Florida, one from Georgia (and if memory serves correct he originally committed to UCLA) and two from Texas. They have to pull more talent from those areas and recruit those areas harder. Get the best of the best from in-state and then go out and get some guys from those states.
