Wild/Coyotes:

The Minnesota Wild and Arizona Coyotes will square off in what may be a more exciting matchup than what we are used to seeing.

First off, both teams are at least competing. For the first time in awhile, the Coyotes are actually in such a good position that they are already buyers before the midway mark of the season, as we saw the recent addition of superstar Taylor Hall in an attempt to boost the talent in their offense.

Minnesota, while projected at the bottom by of the standings at the start of the season, has actually been quite competitive despite the lower placement in the standings of a very tough division.

While neither of these teams are high puck possession teams, they are both stacked with a fine combination of young and fast talent as well as effective veterans. Because neither of them place much emphasis on puck possession and basic domination, there may be a lot of time and space for both clubs to execute their own styles. I expect a chippy game with a lot of opportunities, and because both teams are coming off low scoring games, there should be an extra surge today with a little less caution.

Though books have projected a stale game with fewer offensive threats than many matchups, but I can see a lot of persistence in opportunity capitalization tonight.

Knights/Canucks:

Today, we have a tale of two teams.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights have taken awhile, but are finally on the right track and looking like their aggressively dangerous selves amidst a three game winning streak.

The Vancouver Canucks on the other hand, have fallen down to earth after a hot start to their season through a big jump with their top six. They are currently in a three game losing streak themselves.

I think it is safe to say at this point that the Canucks need some focus on their ability to defend, after giving up 20 goals in their last five games. Because of this, we may have a bit of an inflated total.

While many people expect a Vegas win today, I think the Canucks have a good opportunity to learn from their 6-3 loss against these Golden Knights just a couple games ago. Travis Green should be having this team work on their defense while the offense looks to find its groove again as well. The key will be to limit the powerplays, and also the aggressive style of the Knights. While they may still lose this one, I do not expect Vancouver to be as unprepared in front of their home crowd this time around…especially after allowing a Montreal late game surge this past Tuesday,

While Vegas and Vancouver both like the puck possession game, I think this will be more of a “take-what-you-can-get” game. The emphasis on putting shots on goal may limit the quality chances, and the high puck possession style of both teams will make this game a little more opportunistic in mindset. I expect a lot of puck management from Vancouver, and this should hold the Golden Knights back from running up the score at the very least.
