2018 SEC Pick of the Week – Week Eight

This season we just can’t have nice things can we?

Despite getting one pick of the week correct and the upset alert – congrats to the Volunteers for winning their first conference game since 1999! – we fall to 3-5 overall for the year.

In our first pick of the week, between Georgia and LSU it wasn’t even close. The Tigers manhandled the Bulldogs 36-16 in a game that was never close.

As a result, the Bulldogs have some serious questions they’ll have to answer before they line up against the Florida Gators in two weeks.

Speaking of Florida…

In our second pick of the week, the Gators came back from a 21-3 deficit to win 37-27 which covers the seven-point spread. And true to form, as I pointed out, their struggles in Nashville continued.

Maybe they don’t like country music? Or maybe the plethora of awesomeness that is Nashville, which fun fact: probably my favorite big city in the United States, man Rippy’s BBQ is fantastic, just doesn’t mesh well with them.

Though I’m more inclined to believe it has more to do with the fact that it’s Vanderbilt and they just expect to win to because it’s Vanderbilt than anything else.

Like Georgia, Florida too has a few questions they’ll have to find answers to before the matchup against the Bulldogs.

As for our upset alert, yeah, you just knew that with Auburn’s struggles it was bound to happen. Easy call.

Week eight…

SEC Pick of the Week: No. 22 Mississippi State at No. 5 LSU (-6.5), 7:00pm ET on ESPN.

As a Gator fan I’ll say this: other than The Swamp, which is the best stadium ever, the best stadium in the SEC is Tiger Stadium. Especially when LSU plays at night.

And guess what?

The Tigers are playing the Bulldogs at night. Baton Rouge turns into something special for night games. It’s like a total transformation. It’s weird. They play so much better at night … and the fans, ugh, they get into it more.

Tigers win big.

Upset Alert: Tennessee at No. 1 Alabama (-29), 3:30pm ET on CBS.

For the second week in a row we find the Volunteers in this spot, but this time it’s for a different reason.

Think points. Getting over four touchdowns is a lot, especially in a rivalry game this big. I like Alabama to win, obviously, but I like the Vols to cover.

Keep an eye on: Auburn (-3.5) at Ole Miss, 12:00pm ET on ESPN.

Ole Miss has a good offense and Auburn has a loss to Tennessee.

Interesting, indeed.

Trending up: Bye weeks.

Not to keep talking about my Gators but this goes to Georgia as well. It’s always good to have the week off before the two teams meet in Jacksonville.

Another note: despite not being talked about too much, Ole Miss has a pretty good offense.

Trending down: SEC in the CFP.

There’s not much in terms of trending down in the SEC (oh, hello again Auburn) so this is about all I got.

Can they get two teams in?
