On paper Texas should definitely be the team to beat. They have a very favorable Big 12 schedule. They catch the Sooners on a 3rd leg of a tough 3 game stretch in which OU has to play Notre Dame, TCU and Texas in back to back games. Texas just has Iowa State the week before the RRR. And that game could get moved to a Thursday night game. Which would give UT that much more time to prep for OU. The Horns also get OSU at home. They travel to TCU, but they get an open date before that game, while TCU has to play at OSU the week before. So the scheduling advantage favors Texas in a big way over the rest of the conference. Which is important since I don’t believe Texas is head and shoulders better than the rest. The other big advantage that the Horns have in 2013 is the majority of the teams who are their stiffest competetion lost their starting QB’s in 2012. No more Landry Jones, Geno Smith, Doege, Klein or Frazier. Ash being in his 3rd season will be the most experienced QB in the league. No matter what you may think of Ash, that is still a nice advantage to have in what I think will be a down year for the conference.

GS, it does appear that Texas should be improved over last years team and w/ just about every other Big 12 team breaking in a new QB, the Longhorns should be the odds on favorite to win the conference.

But their D is still (surprisingly) a question mark. Maybe Manny Diaz can’t get the job done there in Austin?
