For years, people here in Lincoln have been clamoring about the 2013 campaign as “the year” Nebraska has a shot to make some noise. After all, the schedule sets up very well for the Huskers, and Taylor Martinez should lead a pretty decent offense in his senior year. However, as Shawn mentioned, and most of the country found out by watching the B10 Championship game: there are some serious problems with that defense.

Nebraska’s transformation in the past three years has been “eye-brow raising” and somewhat eerie, if I must say so myself. They had a top ten defense in 2009, led by Suh, and the offense was one of the worst in their conference (the Big 12 at the time). Every year since then, the offense has improved, and the defense has deteriorated. This all came to fruition in the Big 10 Championship Game and Capital One Bowl this season. It will be interesting to see if Pelini can buck this trend, and get the defense back on track.

OL, I agree w/ you. What’s it going to take to get Nebraska “back”? I’m a Gator fan….so I know good and well what a good Nebraska team can do to a team! I want to see Nebraska kicking ass again…especially now that they are in the B10. Pelini is a defensive specialist. I’m sure he’s worked on the problems….however, it may be a lack of talent. If that’s the case, he needs to step it up on the recruiting trail. Maybe a JUCO DT or LB here or there until he rebuilds his defensive depth?
