Betting on College Football – Week 10 Quick Hitters

Week 10 provides some interesting matchups to look out for. There are several non-conference sandwich games that bettors must be weary of. Otherwise, conference play is starting to heat up in many divisions, with some crucial games on the slate this weekend. As we dig deeper into the season, motivation becomes a really important factor for teams that are still in contention for national and conference titles. Also, it is important to keep in mind coaching advantages, especially when two familiar conference foes are going against each other. This usually carries more weight in November and December. In addition, depth, fatigue, injuries, and even weather will likely play a bigger role throughout the rest of the season.

Thanks for the information OpeningLine. I have a question on the Tennessee game. You mention you like the over, but what abut the side? After such a brutal SEC slate I think the Vols just pour it on a hapless Troy.

At first glance I thought it might be a decent number for Troy. After looking at it more closely, I decided to lean Tennessee, and here’s why:

Even though Troy has a pretty solid passing attack, Troy QB Corey Robinson didn’t look like himself last week in their loss @Florida Atlantic. He is coming off a concussion, and there should be some worry that he is not back to his original playing form, especially when he has to go into Knoxville and play in front of 110,000 on Saturday. In fact, he is currently listed as questionable to even play.

I understand this is a non-conference sandwich game for Tennessee, but they are looking for somebody to take out their frustrations on. It will be a significant step-down in class for the Vols, it just depends on whether they are overlooking the Trojans or looking to pulverize them, especially with their head coach receiving so much hot seat talk.

With the line laying at 18.5 points, there is always a chance at the backdoor cover, especially with a team that is capable of throwing the ball like Troy is. However, if Tennessee can get up for this noon kickoff, they should be able to light it up on the Trojans.

Just in case you were considering (or had already) wagered on Buffalo:

Buffalo starting quarterback Alex Zordich (ribs) has been ruled out for Saturday’s game against Miami-Ohio. Freshman Joe Licata will start in his place. Licata has played in four conference games, completing only 20-of-44 passes for 211 yards (4.8 ypa). Since 2010, Buffalo has just three wins over FBS competition. Prior to the announcement, the Bulls were 3.5-point home chalk.

Personally one of the reasons why I have had difficulty bringing myself to place a wager on Buffalo is because I can’t get Zordich’s performance against Kent State out of my head. The guy was horrible.
