Sharks/Panthers:

It has been awhile since my last post, as we got through kind of a groan zone in the NHL season.

Today we have a good spot in regards to value.

The San Jose Sharks have been among one of the streakier teams this season, and will look to face one of the more up and down teams in hockey this later afternoon in Sunrise, Florida.

The Florida Panthers, though highly touted in the preseason rankings, have been producing results in which anyone’s guess has been as good as another. At times, they have been the high powered top draft pick filled lineup that they have been expected to evolve to over the years. At times they have been losing games that they have been expected to win. In a nutshell, they can score goals at will, but also allow goals at an incredible pace (29th in the league in goals per game allowed).

On a back to back, they will face the Sharks who are also on a back to back. The difference is that Florida played one of their more complete games of the season yesterday, against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Sharks on the other hand, well…they had an awful showing in their 7-1 loss in Southwest Florida yesterday, against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Though currently in a three game losing streak and enduring a complete meltdown last night, the Sharks are a team that prides themselves on defensive ability. Pete Deboer usually has his team playing a responsible game, and for whatever reason, that did not come into fruition yesterday. Today, while neither team should be at their optimal forms coming off games last night, San Jose not only has motivation to their advantage, but they also have the better defensive foundation overall. This will come in handy in a game that is expected to be somewhat sloppy, and we should see a very opportunistic  type of game that favors the Sharks.
