Razors NHL 10/10/19

Red Wings moneyline +175  1*

The Detroit Red Wings may be winless in their last nine games against Montreal, but today may be a different story. Detroit is off to a high flying start with their top line, and this includes Anthony Mantha who already has 7 points. However, the main factor here will be the speed that the Red Wings are displaying.

Last game, they ran into a tight defensive system established by Dallas Eakins and the Anaheim Ducks. Today, they play a Montreal team that had to fight off five penalties, including the one leading to the Overtime loss in Buffao yesterday. The line has shifted incredibly in Montreal’s favor, due to the fact that the Habs are an Original Six team playing in their home opener. While the energy will be high for the home opener, I feel as though the concept is highly overrated…especially since we are dealing with the pioneer of hockey. Take this game for face value, and look for Detroit to give Montreal a run for their money.

Oilers moneyline +109  1*

I know everyone is back on the Oilers wagon now after a 3-0 start, so this would be seen as a square play. I am not going to give that concept much attention, as this is still the very early stages of the season. The Oilers are hot, the Devils are not. Regardless of what happens tonight, I will have to back the understanding that Edmonton is playing a far more complete game under new Head Coach Dave Tippett. New Jersey, on the other hand, is still trying to figure out how to find chemistry with a team that experienced quite a makeover.

I see a run and gun game tonight, but Edmonton just looks far more sound defensively. Could the Devils figure it out? maybe..but I will continue to think otherwise until they do. It’s worth a blind public tail on this one.

Capitals moneyline +122  1*

The Washington Capitals will be looking to bounce back after an overtime loss in Dallas, where Alexander Ovechkin selfishly skated his team into trouble that resulted in a 2 on 1 goal between Alexander Radulov and Tyler Seguin. The last game should be a cue for the Capitals captain to smarten up tonight. While Nashville has won six straight against Washington, the relevance of this statistic is diluted by the fact that these two teams play on opposite conferences. Essentially, we have a toss up here. These are two great contenders who can beat anyone on any given night. I will go with the value.

Coyotes moneyline +108  1*

The obvious play is going to be the Las Vegas Golden Knights, as they have high hopes once again this season and are going up against the winless Arizona Coyotes. However, the line has showed some very significant movement in Arizona’s favor. I am not making this bet based on the line movement, but I feel that Arizona is being challenged in terms of resiliency early despite having higher hopes this season.

Vegas got a nice reality check last game, as their relentless forecheck system was countered by elite puck management from the Boston Bruins. The result of that should be a damper on their belief in the process, at least temporarily. The Coyotes will be very motivated to extend their winning streak against the Knights to three games, as they too can play a chippy game on bad ice. Look for the Coyotes to have their best game yet.
