2019 SEC Football Pick of the Week – Week Four

We’re now getting into the “you’ve got to be kidding me!” category. South Carolina’s last second touchdown against Alabama meant that for the third week in a row the pick of the week lost by a half a point.

I mean, seriously.

C’mon.

Luckily though, we had two picks last weekend and Florida’s last second touchdown while attempting to run out the clock against Kentucky pushed the score to 29-21 which in turn covered the 7-point spread.

So, yay me! We’re now 1-3 on the year and we’re going with two picks again this week in an attempt to get even.

Week four…

SEC Pick of the Week: No. 7 Notre Dame at No. 3 Georgia (-14.5), 8:00pm ET on CBS.

During my freshman year of college – way back in 2002 – one of my RA’s was a big Notre Dame fan.

Now, I’ve never really had an opinion of the Fighting Irish one way or another other than the fact that I tend to think they’re a little overrated from time to time. But I remember this guy never just shutting the hell up. It would occasionally annoy the crap out off me. Especially if he got to the big screen TV that was in our floor’s entertainment/laundry room first.

“They’re always just trying to screw the Irish.” Man, if I heard that one more freaking time I swear to you I was going to lose it. But he ended up getting kicked out of the dorms for hoarding toliet paper and as a result I had the TV on the third floor all to myself so long as I got there early enough. Which of course meant that I did laundry for approximately 82 hours every Saturday if the Gators were playing later in the day and I wasn’t going to the game as I got to the room at like 8am to guarantee my spot.

One of the games I remember watching was Notre Dame’s game against Pittsburgh that year. It was so damn boring that I didn’t watch a Notre Dame game for a decade or more after that, I think. All I know is that the only Notre Dame game I’ve watched since then was that one game against Michigan when the Wolverines came back in the last second and won.

Longer story short, I might watch this game. I doubt it, but I might. I work with a bunch of Georgia Bulldog fans.

Give me the Bulldogs.

SEC Pick of the Week II: No. 4 LSU  (-23) at Vanderbilt, 12:00pm ET on SECN.

I’ll admit it. I was completely wrong about Joe Burrow and LSU. I’ve been waiting for the Tigers’ to crumble for a couple of years now under Coach O, but maybe they’re not going to.

Burrow might just be their savior. And going up against Vanderbilt, oh man, you’ve got to be kidding me. This has a 50-10 type off feel to it.

LSU wins big.

Upset alert: No. 8 Auburn at No. 17 Texas A&M (-4), 3:30pm ET on CBS.

I honestly don’t know how to go here so I’m glad that I don’t have to make a pick.

Bo Nix is good but Texas A&M is due to start rolling I would think and they’re at home in this game.

Does Auburn have enough to pull off the minor upset (Vegas-wise)?

Keep an eye on: Tennessee at No. 9 Florida (-14), 12:00pm ET on ESPN.

Only here because Kyle Trask is now the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future and for the fact that the Vols have only beaten the Gators once since 2004.

But…

I’m a believer in Trask. He was nearly named the starter twice, including last year when he broke his foot on a trick play in practice and was lost the for the season the day after being named the starter.

Trending up: Injury replacement quarterbacks.

Ryan Hilinski of South Carolina, Garrett Shrader of Mississippi State, Sawyer Smith of Kentucky and Kyle Trask of Florida all played well coming in at various points – in Smith’s case getting the start – of their respective games.

Hilinski’s a potentially exciting freshman, Shrader’s one tough  dudea and a pretty good runner, Smith is a gamer but maybe not the best decision maker and Trask, well, this Gator fan was impressed but his long-term viability is a question mark.

I’m also fairly confident that that Hilinski dude in Carolina will be fine this year but man, that damn schedule.

Trending down: Chad Morris.

I feel bad for Morris. He seems to fit in very well for Arkansas and he’s going to need time to fix that mess. Unfortunately though, they play in the West and that’s no easy task so I just don’t know if he’ll get the time he needs.
