2018 SEC Pick of the Week – Week Twelve

Ole Miss Football 2013 Spring Wrap Up

I guess we’re just destined to finish at or near the .500 mark this season. With Georgia covering the spread and Missouri failing to do so, we now stand at 7-7 on the year.

But…

Not bad considering we started out 2-4 and 3-5 on the year. But you know what they say about it when you just try your best.

Also…

For the fourth time this year I’ve seen the movie The Devil’s Advocate mentioned or referneced in a sports article. The latest one was on ESPN in their weekly rundown of college football things. Maybe it’s because it’s on Netflix, yes?

Well…

Why does everybody think it’s a bad movie? I thought it was a good movie and have had that thought for years. Especially near the end when Al Pacino goes all Al Pacino and shows why he’s a hell (ohhh, see what I did there?) of an actor.

Week twelve…

SEC Pick of the Week: Ole Miss at Vanderbilt (-3), 7:30pm ET on SECN.

One of the few conference games this week is the Rebels and the Commodores.

Oh, this should be thrilling.

The ‘Dores are favored here, slightly, because they’re at home. But I’m going to to with the Rebels because something about picking Vanderbilt doesn’t seem right.

Vanderbilt is 4-6 overall and 1-5 in the SEC. Ole Miss checks in at 5-5 overall with a 1-5 SEC record as well.

This should be interesting.

Go Rebels. Landsharks. Black Bears, whatever.

Upset alert: UAB at Texas A&M (-15), 7:00pm ET on ESPN2.

UAB, who disbanded football a few years ago is back. And they’re back in a big way.

They are 9-1 overall and 7-0 in CUSA. Their only loss was on the road to Coastal Carolina.

Can they pull off the upset at Kyle Field? They’ll get $1.6 million to find out.

Keep an eye on: Arkansas at Mississippi State (-21.5), 12:00pm ET on ESPN.

Woo. Pig. Sooie.

Oh, this isnt basketball? 7

Trending up: The haves.

As always, the SEC remains unchanged. Florida and Georgia in the East and Alabama and LSU in the West.

One thing though: Auburn and Tennessee. If they ever get their acts together, every so often they could compete.

One other thing: There always seems to be one team that plays way above themselves for a year.

This year it was Kentucky. Even though they have started to fade badly.

Trending down: The have nots.

I realize Kentucky finished second in the East, winning the tie-breaker over Florida but still, it’s business as usual for the bottom feeders of the SEC.

As for the Mississippis – hmm, that doesn’t look right – the Vanderbilts and the Arkansas’ of the conference it was a business as usual type of year.

Trending down II: Florida State.

Yes, I know this is a SEC column but I’ve been waiting for this moment for years. As a Gators fan, the one thing FSU has over us is a really long bowl streak. The NCAA doesn’t really count their streak as active but they do, so it’s about time somebody shut them up.

They are currently 4-6 and have to beat both Boston College and my Gators to reach a bowl game. I would love it if the Gators were the team to keep them from that 6th win but I fear that they’ll somehow, someway sneak by with 5 wins and make the Emerald Bowl or Belk Bowl or whatever.

Go Eagles!
