Well that was fun.

A bland 19-3 victory for the LSU Tigers against the Mississippi State Bulldogs means that we picked up the win and improved to 4-5 on the year.

Yay!

(Again, it was a boring game.)

(To me anyway.)

So now we move on to more exciting things…

Few games get me as excited as The Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Florida vs. Georgia. Jacksonville. The Landing. It doesn’t get any better than that.

I’m telling you what … 3:30pm on CBS – the game should never be in a different timeslot. I don’t care if both teams are ranked in the top-5 or both teams are 0-6. Some things should never change.

On a side note: The Florida-Tennessee game should always be in that timeslot as well AND be the opening conference game for both teams and possibly the entire SEC.

Back to Florida-Georgia for a moment though. New rule! Henceforth, this game shall always be featured as the pick of the week regardless of confidence level either way. Go Gators!

So, let’s get to it.

Week nine…

SEC Pick of the Week: No. 9 Florida vs. No. 7 Georgia (-6), 3:30pm ET on CBS in Jacksonville.

Man oh man, I just don’t know. This is one of those games where my head and heart are telling me two different things.

My head is telling me Georgia wins (and covers) but my heart is saying no, not so fast. Georgia is a good football team and a more talented football team but they aren’t as good as they were last year.

Look at how they’re playing. They just aren’t the same team. And you know what? Neither are the Florida Gators.

Same players but different feel. Dan Mullen has, in the words of Steve Spurrier, done a great job of “coaching them up.” They are playing inspired football right now despite an early season loss to Kentucky.

Head or heart… I’ll go with the gut, the Gators have a chance.

I’m calling it: Gators win.

Upset alert: Tennessee at South Carolina (-7.5), 7:30pm ET on SECN.

At the beginning of the year I had this game listed as the Volunteers’ first (out of two) possible conference win.

They’ve already gotten one thanks to Auburn. So now with the way the Gamecocks have played this year it’s possible the Vols get conference victory number two a little early.

Keep an eye on: No. 12 Kentucky at Missouri (-6.5), 4:00pm ET on SECN.

I have a feeling this is where the Wildcats’ dream season ends and/or begins to fall apart.

I have never thought they were a top-20 team and traveling to face a Tigers team with star running back Benny Snell banged up just might be the worst possible scenario.

Keep an eye on II: No. 16 Texas A&M at Mississippi State (-2.5), 7:00pm ET on ESPN.

Our theme continues with ranked teams on the road as underdogs with the Aggies taking on a reeling Bulldog squad looking to rebound following a tough stretch.

Only problem? They are in the SEC West. It is never easy. However, if they – looking at you quarterback Nick Fitzgerald – were to break out of their funk, this feels like the perfect game.

Trending up: SEC East.

Heading into the season who would have thought that there would be three teams from the east division in the top-15 of the rankings a week before the playoff rankings are released?

Trending down: Mississippi State.

Again, I know I’ve touched on these guys a couple of times already, but yeah, they’re bad.
