2014 Big Ten Power Rankings – Week 14

<> at Michigan Stadium on October 1, 2011 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

East Division

1. Ohio State 10-1 (7-0)The Buckeyes snuck past Tevin Coleman and the Hoosiers, but clinched the East and have cleared a path into the College Football Playoff.

Coming Up: Nov.29th vs. Michigan- There is no way the Buckeyes look past their hated rivals, but they have to win this game or their season is flushed again.

2. Michigan State 9-2 (6-1)The Spartans demolished Rutgers. It was not even competitive. They are going for another 10-win season.

Coming Up: Nov. 29th– at Penn State- The defensive line should be excited to face this Penn State offensive line. 10 wins and a nice bowl game is in sight.

3. Maryland 7-4 (4-3)Maryland has been a better team on the road this year and they put the icing on the cake on Michigan’s miserable season at the Big House.

Coming Up: Nov. 29th – vs. Rutgers- Can the Big Ten force this to be a rivalry. They have the geography for it, now they need to show some fight on the field. The Terps should end the season at home with a win.

4. Michigan 5-6 (3-4)A bowl game seems out of the questions as Michigan travels to Ohio for The Game Saturday. Could they send Brady Hoke out a hero, or will this just pile on to his trouble?

Coming Up: Nov. 29th – at Ohio State- The matchup speaks for itself and the game has been close the last couple of years, but Michigan could be in for a beat down in Columbus.

5. Penn State 6-5 (2-5) A loss at Illinois took some air out of the balloon in Happy Valley, but the Lions still have six wins.

Coming Up: Nov. 29th– vs. Michigan State- If the offensive line cannot get any push, it will be an extremely long day for Hackenberg. 6-6 is a real possibility.

6. Rutgers 6-5 (2-5)Rutgers was reminded harshly that not all Big Ten teams are Indiana. A trip to East Lansing put the Knights back in their place.

Coming Up: Nov. 29th at Maryland- A winnable road game against a team that they could form a legitimate rivalry with and Rutgers could finish the season with seven wins.

7. Indiana 3-8 (0-7)The Hoosiers nearly turned the Buckeyes world upside down last week thanks to some good defense and big Coleman runs.

Coming Up: Nov. 29th vs. Purdue- Nothing would erase a disappointing season like winning the Old Oaken Bucket for the second straight year for the first time in two decades. Coleman could break 400 yards this week.

West Division

1. Wisconsin 9-2 (6-1)The Badgers survived Iowa City and this week’s battle for the Axe should be one for the ages.

Coming Up: Nov. 29th– vs. Minnesota- What is there to say? The winner of the Axe goes to the Big Ten Championship.

2. Minnesota 8-3 (5-2)The Gophers came back to win a shocker in Lincoln. This week’s battle for the Axe with championship implications is rare waters for the Gophers.

Coming Up: Nov.29th– vs. Wisconsin- Both schools hate each other and they play for a giant axe. Sprinkle in the fact that the winner goes to Indianapolis and boy this is going to be one to watch.

3. Nebraska 8-3 (4-3)Big Red fans are getting restless. Can the Huskers get to nine wins or will Iowa shock them again.

Coming Up: Nov. 28th– at Iowa- This “rivalry” heated up last year when the Hawkeyes came into Lincoln and pulled out the win. Bo Pelini will be coaching for his job.

4. Iowa 7-4 (4-3)– The last few weeks were supposed to be where the Hawkeyes made some moves in the division, but an up and down season took the fun out of it.

Coming Up: Nov.29th vs. Nebraska- Can the Hawkeyes make it two in a row against the Huskers?

5. Northwestern 5-6 (3-4)A run away win at Purdue sets up another big trophy game. Win and the ‘Cats go to the post season. Lose and rival Illinois is bowling.

Coming Up: Nov.29th– vs. Illinois- A winner take all matchup is nice to have at home. Northwestern will probably complete their improbably postseason run.

6. Illinois 5-6 (2-5)Speaking of improbable, the Illini could be bowl eligible with a win, but would that be in the best interest of the program long term?

Coming Up: Nov. 29th at Northwestern- Playing in Evanston will make it that much tougher to play the red hot Wildcats.

7. Purdue 3-8 (1-6)Purdue took a major step back in a drubbing from Northwestern. They could take a major step forward by beating the Hoosiers in the Old Oaken Bucket game

Coming Up: Nov. 29th– at Indiana- A win here would give the Boilers a step up on instate recruiting. A loss just reinforces the status quo, which is that the Hoosiers are better.
