2014 SEC Power Rankings – Week Four

SEC East

1. South Carolina (2-1, 1-1 SEC) – A huge 38-35 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs vaults the Gamecocks to the No. 1 position on our list. Dylan Thompson continued to look good at quarterback as they look to put an early season loss to Texas A&M behind them.

Next game: A Saturday trip to Nashville on September 20th for a very winnable game.

2. Georgia (1-1, 0-1 SEC) – The Bulldogs fell to the Gamecocks 38-35 last weekend but they’re not out of things yet. They get Auburn and Tennessee at home while their toughest remaining road game is at Missouri. They’ll get things back on track this weekend.

Next game: A win against Troy at home on Saturday, September 20th.

3. Missouri (3-0, 0-0 SEC) – Missouri looked beatable for portions of their recent 38-10 win over UCF. Maty Mauk continues to impress in his first year at starting quarterback but questions still linger if they can keep things up.

Next game: Saturday, September 20th at home against Indiana.

4. Florida (2-0, 1-0 SEC) – The Gators lead a group of three that appear to be very close, but the better record is the tiebreaker. Questions on defense, especially in the secondary arose in their 36-30 triple overtime victory over Kentucky.

Next game: Saturday, September 20th at Alabama. The Gators are massive underdogs in this game.

5. Tennessee (2-1, 0-0 SEC) – A 34-10 loss at Oklahoma does nothing to dimish the Vols’ return on the season thus far. However, things don’t get any easier next weekend with a trip to Athens, Georgia on the docket.

Next game: They’re off this weekend. Saturday, September 27th against Georgia is next.

6. Kentucky (2-1, 0-1 SEC) – The Wildcats nearly upset the Gators over the weekend but lost in triple overtime. The “Air Raid” offense looks to be taking hold in Lexington.

Next game: Saturday, September 27th at home against Vanderbilt. Kentucky will be the favorite.

7. Vanderbilt (1-2, 0-1 SEC) – Derek Mason got his first win as the Vanderbilt head coach as the Commodores came from behind to beat Massachusetts 34-31. They’ll be heavy underdogs this Saturday.

Next game: Saturday, September 20th against South Carolina.

SEC WEST

1. Alabama (3-0, 0-0 SEC) – After three non conference wins to begin the season, the Crimson Tide finally get their SEC portion of the schedule underway this weekend. They still have some questions to figure out.

Next game: Florida visits Tuscaloosa on Saturday, September 20th.

2. Texas A&M (3-0, 1-0 SEC) – That victory over South Carolina looks really good now doesn’t it? They’ll cruise this weekend in Dallas.

Next game: Saturday, September 20th against SMU in Dallas.

3. Auburn (2-0, 1-0 SEC) – The Tigers were off last weekend because they’ve got a Thursday game this week against No. 20 Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas. They’ll be the heavy favorites.

Next game: Thursday, September 18th at Kansas State.

4. LSU (3-0, 0-0 SEC) – The Tigers were on cruise control in their 31-0 victory over UL Monroe last weekend. They get their first SEC test in the Mississippi State Bulldogs this weekend though. Upset alert?

Next game: Saturday, September 20th in Death Valley against Mississippi State.

5. Ole Miss (3-0, 1-0 SEC) – Ole Miss has blown out all three of their opponents so far this year and they look to make it four as Memphis rolls into The Grove after a bye week.

Next game: They’re off this week, but Memphis is next on September 27th.

6. Mississippi State (3-0, 0-0 SEC) – The next four weeks will tell us everything about the Bulldogs as they’ve got LSU, Texas A&M and Auburn coming up. Two of those games (Texas A&M and Auburn) are at home.

Next game: Saturday, September 20th at LSU.

7. Arkansas (2-1, 0-1 SEC) – A very nice 49-28 win against Texas Tech last weekend as the Razorbacks look to finally have things “running” on all cylinders down in Fayetteville.

Next game: They’ll are heavy favorites against Northern Illinois on Saturday, September 20th.
