ABOUT THE SATURDAY EDGE
Welcome to The Saturday Edge. In early February of 2012 GoSooners and I exchanged ideas on developing an online magazine that offered knowledge and instruction on how to bet on college football.
More importantly we wanted to create a community where college football handicapping enthusiasts could exchange useful betting strategies, tips, ideas and information. A community that was 100% focused on college football handicapping without all the distractions and endless clutter of the various forums.
SATURDAY’S SAVANTS
Pezgordo
Tim Tolman, aka Pezgordo, is a graduate of Arizona State University and an avid PAC 12 football fan. Pez has been handicapping college football for over 30 years. He lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his beautiful wife Jessie, their 6-year-old-daughter Isabel Anneliese (projected 2033 Stanford graduate and 2035 World Cup participant) and two dogs Maximillian and Natasha. Pez never misses an ASU home game and tries to travel to a few away games each year too. Preferably to Boulder, so he can watch ASU kick Colorado’s ass with his communist/socialist wannabe brother-in-law, who happens to be a CU grad (big surprise). He is an avid hiker and tries to get in a few Grand Canyon treks each year.
GoSooners
Patrick Earley, aka GoSooners, attended Central Oklahoma University and has also been handicapping college football for nearly 30 years. He lives in Edmond, Oklahoma and in his free time he spends endless hours studying college football trends and situational spots. In 2004 he joined the RX forum and has since become an RX college football handicapping legend. His hobbies include golf, capping college football (of course), horse racing, hard to find music collecting and trading, taking frequent trips to the Caribbean, and chasing around old women who are slower than he is.
Maggiore
Jud White, aka Maggiore, is a graduate of Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio. He is an admitted life long Ohio State fan, but please do not hold that against him. He has been handicapping college football for nearly 9 years and has followed the Big 10 conference for as long as he can remember. He lives in Portsmouth with his wife Becka, they have been married for just over six months. Becka is obviously a very understanding young lady since she still agreed to marry Jud despite his known addiction to golf and college football handciapping.
Jimmyshivers
Jimmyshivers is a Tobacco Road lifer. Born and raised in Raleigh, he is a 2005 North Carolina State graduate who quickly parlayed his lifelong love of sports and money into a passion for ACC sports betting. Jimmy still lives in the Raleigh area and tries to make it to as many NC State games as he can. When he isn’t making excuses for Wolfpack basketball, Jimmy enjoys spending time with his fiancee and their dog while finding ways to avoid working around the house. He is trying social media for the first time and can be found on Twitter @jimmy_shivers.
Trentmoney
Trentmoney was born and raised in New York City. He has been working in sports television since 1997, spending autumn weekends on the road, having worked games at 55 major college stadiums and 27 NFL venues. He trades the financial markets when not working in sports. His lovely fiancee Kristina’s least favorite months are September thru January.
SabertStxVii
SabertStxVii grew up in Cincinnati before attending the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He now resides in NYC and his primary career (depending on how that is classified) is within the financial world, mainly Wealth Management. SabertStxVii has been sports betting since he was 16. In his commentary, you will see a stark similarity between managing or allocating a wealthy clients portfolio and managing your gambling book/plays throughout a season. SabertStxVii grew up on SEC football , literally. His parents are both South Carolina grads, and he has a sibling that currently plays college football for an SEC team. In his free time while not being irritated by NYC tourist, he enjoys golfing, tailgating in SEC country, country music concerts, and obviously capping college football. His twitter @mtsabert will contain half useless/humorous sagas on his life, half sports commentary.
OpeningLine
Spencer L, aka OpeningLine, is a recent graduate from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Economics. He is a loyal, yet not delusional, Husker fan who resides in Lincoln, NE with his girlfriend, Meghan. He is a “numbers guy” by trade, and that carries over to the way he analyzes football with trends and stats. He also pays attention to the X’s and O’s by breaking down film to see how those stats translate to the playing field. You can follow him on twitter @Spencer_JL, as he usually posts his findings of good, relevant college football information throughout the week. He has been handicapping college football for about five years, and winning college football pick ’em contests since grade school. His dog, Izzy, is also a pretty good handicapper, especially in NCAA Basketball. Her strategy of picking every team with a dog mascot served her well in the 2011 tournament when the UConn Huskies beat the Butler Bulldogs in the championship. Sadly, the entry wasn’t posted in a national contest, so instead of winning $50,000, she was awarded a rawhide bone and bragging rights around the house.
SATURDAY EDGE WRITERS
Josh Doust
Josh is a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University where he studied economics and mathematics. He has been handicapping college football for a decade and has been a Colorado fan for twice as long. A depressed fan at that. He resides in NE Indiana with his beautiful wife, two dogs and baby on the way in late summer. Hobbies include golf, BBQ, traveling, and analyzing large amounts of sports betting data. Josh enjoys using his knowledge of excel and data mining to put together useful databases that can be very helpful for handicapping a given sport. He also appeared in the ESPN documentary Catching Hell as the cameraman in the upper deck directly behind Steve Bartman. His twitter is @Doustism and usually includes 90% sports betting info and 10% nonsense.
The Southeasterner
Charlie Burris, aka The Southeasterner, is a graduate of the University of Tennessee where he received a degree in Accounting and an education in slacking off. Charlie writes about the SEC and reads everything he can on sports blogs and news sites. He enjoys basketball, golf, and secretly likes the band Creed. Charlie often makes references to the 1990’s and thinks he would’ve made an awesome contestant on Legends of the Hidden Temple. You can follow Charlie on Twitter @Southeasterner_ where he posts SEC news and notes and embarrassing pictures of Alabama fans.
Kevin
Kevin is the Founder/Editor of College Football Zealots, a great college football blog by people who know and love college football. The blog tries to see things from all perspectives but it does have a bit of a southern lean, which is why Kevin is one of our SEC experts on The Saturday Edge. Kevin’s also a University of Georgia grad, so don’t take anything too seriously he says about the Bulldogs, he’s a definite homer. You can follow Kevin on Twitter @CFBZ.
Eric Cooper
Eric is a 22 year old active duty Navy sailor stationed in Spain. He was born and raised in Northeast Ohio and is a lifelong Buckeye fan. He has written previously for two Ohio State sports blogs and has aspirations to go to Ohio State after his term of service ends next year and become a professional writer. The good news for Eric is that he still has an opportunity to change his mind and head out west to Tempe, where the weather and girls are way HOTTER than in Ohio. You can follow Eric on Twitter @Ohioan_330.
David T.
David T. was born and raised in Kansas City and graduated from the University of Central Missouri in 2009. He has been a Chiefs, Royals and Jayhawks fan since the day he was born. He once wore some type of Chiefs clothing every day for 6 months, and still to this day 90% of his wardrobe is some kind of team logo gear. David has been gambling on sports for the last 8 years. He is married and the proud father of a 1 year old boy. He is an avid golfer and if he could play a round of golf with any three people in the world it would be Bill Self, Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan. You can follow David on Twitter @jayhawkingchief.
Josh Webb
Josh has a Master’s in Public Administration with a Bachelor’s in Sociology. A lifelong Trojan, Josh is also a fan of the Big Bang Theory, the Grand Theft Auto series, and the Oxford comma. He is the author of “Sweethawt Loans, Sugah Bowls, & Non-Profit Reforms: A Case Study of the Bowl Championship Series’ (BCS’) Abuses of Non-Profit Status.” You can follow Josh on Twitter @FightOnTwist.
Chris Richmond
Chris is an undergrad at the University of Alabama, He runs the official Twitter account @WoollyAl for the Alabama message board WoollyAl.com. He is obviously a huge fan of Alabama and roots for the SEC in general, though he does hate Tennessee, Auburn, and Notre Dame.
Sammy Jacobs
Sammy is a 2009 graduate from Indiana University with a degree Sports Communication and Broadcasting. He started the Indiana football website Hoosier Huddle in July of 2013. Currently he is working on a Masters Degree in Physical Education at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. You can follow him on Twitter @sammyj108. He is a member of the Football Writers Association of America and a voter for the Nagurski Award.
Zachary Gilliland
Zach is an undergrad at the University of South Carolina-Upstate. He is a fan of the ACC and Clemson, but loves to write about all teams, even that other team in the state. He plans to live somewhere around upstate South Carolina when he graduates and want to write about Clemson football for a living. He has been writing about sports for the past few years and has his my own website, SC Sports Blog. Being outdoors and fishing are two of his favorite hobbies outside of sports.
