A look ahead to the 2013 Big 12 Quarterbacks
The 2012 season was a pretty good one for Big 12 quarterbacks. Collin Klein was a Heisman finalist after piling up dual threat numbers comparable to the Tim Tebow years and Geno Smith could potentially be the first player selected in the 2013 NFL draft. Landry Jones, Nick Florence and Seth Doege have the potential to also be selected in this years NFL draft.

very interesting read.
now if only I can remember it.
Springs right around the corner Marv. I’ll have him update it afterwards. I won’t let you forget. LOL!
Pachall is definitely back. And I don’t see Boykin playing QB next season unless Pachall gets hurt. I’m sure Gary Patterson will make it look like a QB contest this spring when Boykin and Pachall go head to head. But the bottom line is Pachall is probably the most talented QB in the Big 12, with NFL first round potential. And Boykin simply isn’t an accurate passer. Look for Boykin to run the Wildfrog when he’s called for. And to play a role at RB. He’s too good of an athlete to keep off the field.
I think you’ve got Heaps too high. Way too high. I know Charles Weis has a “decided schematic advantage” and all but this kid really struggled at BYU. Call me crazy but I think the Okie State kids are being underrated here.
Don’t sleep on Heaps. number 1 quarterback coming out of high school, this system fits him much better and has had a year to lean it. You are probably right about the OK state guys, but until we figure out who the number 1 guy is I can’t personally rate them very high.
I think the book is still open with Heaps. If I go strictly by what I saw of him at BYU, I would put him down at the bottom of the list. But I’ve heard a few things about what went on while he was at BYU to make me think he really wasn’t given much of a chance.
I heard he was kind of thrown under the bus from the very start because the coaching staff preferred Nelson over him. Plus he had no QB coach, which really put him behind the 8 ball. Especially when he had to start the 2011 season with a bunch of difficult games. So there really wasn’t any player development there, which I’m sure helped lead him to ask for a transfer.
So far Heaps has looked completely lost. But given BYU’s offensive troubles since he’s left, leads me to believe the Cougs troubles went way beyond Heaps. A QB is only a product of his system. BYU either has a bad system or bad offensive skill players, or a combination of both. Heaps won’t find Kansas to be any better athletically. Hopefully for Heaps he’ll fit better into the Jayhawks system.
Heaps will have plenty of athleticism around him. Will have two top 5 big 12 running backs behind him in James Sims and Tony Pierson. Emerging player in Tre Parmalee and WR and Justin McCay Army All American out of HS and Oklahoma transfer. I know with the results Kansas has put out the last few years teams will dismiss them, but I could see them being a pleasant surprise in the Big 12 next year.
I just read where McEvoy has committed to Wisconsin. Does that mean Childress plays this coming season?
