2020 SEC Pick of the Week – Week Nine
You know what’s funny to me?
Penn State.
Somehow, before the Big 10 began play this past weekend and especially leading up to it, they were lauded as a potential playoff team.
Then they promptly lost to Indiana in their first game.
Indiana! Lol.
So much for the Big 10 getting two teams into the playoffs this year.
As for the SEC, where we play real football, we went 1-1 in our picks of the week which brings our season record to 2-4 and 47-35 overall since 2015.
Alabama destroyed Tennessee like always, Kentucky had a letdown like always, and Auburn survived yet again like always.
Oh, and LSU throttled South Carolina as expected.
But the train doesn’t stop there as we’ll continue on to week nine with two picks like last week.
Week nine…
SEC Pick of the Week: LSU (-2) at Auburn, 3:30pm ET on CBS.
In a matchup of two underperforming teams so far this year this game is pretty much a tossup. And there are multiple reports out there that LSU starter Myles Brennan won’t play which hurts the Tigers.
However, I still think LSU has the advantage in this game. Auburn is a mess, especially at QB with Bo Nix playing worse than he did last year and with no help on the outside things could get ugly here real quick.
LSU is the pick here.
SEC Pick of the Week II: No. 5 Georgia (-13) at Kentucky, 12:00pm ET on SECN.
It really doesn’t matter who starts at QB for the Bulldogs as their defense will carry them in this one.
And their rushing attack.
And their coaching.
And, well, their overall talent advantage.
Could the Bulldogs get caught looking ahead towards Florida? Sure. But I doubt it.
Bulldogs roll.
Upset alert: Arkansas at No. 8 Texas A&M (-11), 7:30pm ET on SECN.
If there is one team in the SEC that has punched above their weight thus far it has been Arkansas.
If not for a botched call against Auburn they would be 3-1 on the year. A&M on the other hand has a clear path towards a decent season and this has usually been where they falter under Jimbo Fisher.
I like the Hogs to keep this one close.
Keep an eye on: Missouri at No. 10 Florida (-15), 7:30pm ET on SECN ALTERNATE.
The last two times Florida has scheduled Missouri as the homecoming game the Gators have lost.
Guess what this weekend is?
Trending up: New coaches.
Sam Pittman and Eli Drinkwitz, the head coaches at Arkansas and Missouri respectively are off to good starts to their careers at their schools.
Both teams are somewhat unexpectedly 2-2 on the year, which especially for Arkansas is a massive improvement. And if not for a blown call against Auburn they would be 3-1.
Also, both teams were picked to finish at the bottom or one spot above the bottom in their division before the season started and as you can see, they are both going to be tougher than expected outs the rest of the year.
Trending down: New coaches.
Well, basically just the Mississippi guys.
Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss and Mike Leach at Mississippi State are off to rougher than expected starts in their first year at their current schools.
While Kiffin has the Rebels’ offense clicking it has been their defense that has let them down time and time again. It has been the opposite for Mike Leach and the Bulldogs as they have yet to get their offense going aside from one game.
Who will get it going first?
