Canadiens/Panthers:
Today, we have a more intriguing matchup than one might think.
First off, these are two of the best domination teams in the NHL, as they both rank in the top half in CORSI and Fenwick percentages. Second, they are also run by very strategic puck management or at least defensive coaches.
There is a reason why neither the Florida Panthers nor Montreal Canadiens lost a game two of a back to back situation this past month of December. They are well coached to build around defense and clock management.
Today, they face each other in back to back situations, and we have a skyrockyeted total due to both teams having the ability to control and take over games and shot counts. Today though, expect a Chicago/Boston like matchup from the earlier 2010s, where Claude Julien would rely on defensive opportunities start an attack, and Joel Quenneville would play keep away at the right time and look for clutch moments to operate a scoring scheme. What I am saying is that both coaches know defense well, and should be able to make life tough on each others’ squads.
Regardless of goaltender situations, I expect the teams not to be as relentless as yesterday, and for there to be very strategic management today.
