2018 SEC Pick of the Week – Week Thirteen

Thanks to Vanderbilt (Vanderbilt!) we lost another one and are now 7-8 on the season. We now stand at 32-23 overall since the start of the 2015 season.
But now it’s time for my favorite week in college football…
RIVALRY WEEK!
Florida-Florida State, Alabama-Auburn, Michigan-Ohio State, Clemson-Carolina, Notre Dame-Southern Cal, the Egg Bowl, the Civil War, the Apple Cup … the, the Georgia-Georgia Tech matchup, Purdue-Indiana, right?
You’ve also got Tennessee and Vanderbilt – OK, lol.
Rivalries everywhere!!!
And this week provides me with one of my top goals for the Gators in a given season…
Beat Florida State.
Week thirteen…
SEC Pick of the Week: No. 11 Florida (-6.5) at Florida State, 12:00pm ET on ABC.
The last time the Gators beat the Seminoles was 2012. I was fairly confident that then-head coach Will Muschamp was building something big in Gainesville.
(For the record, I still think of given another year or two he would have.)
Anyway, this year, unlike years past the roles are reversed. The ‘Noles are struggling and the Gators, while not the greatest team ever are playing much better than they were the last few seasons.
In a battle between first-year head coaches, Dan Mullen is clearly ahead of FSU’s Willie Taggert.
If only this game was in Gainesville.
But, like 2012, this one isn’t. Former Gators safety Matt Elam enjoyed that victory over the Seminoles so much he left for the NFL in the following days. Had the Gators lost, he’d have come back for his senior year. Guaranteed.
While there isn’t a current player on the Gators that I see having that much hate, for guys like Martez Ivey and CeCe Jefferson who are seniors it’s now or never.
After winning six in a row against the ‘Noles the Gators currently have lost seven of eight.
The streak ends on Saturday.
SEC Pick of the Week II: Georgia Tech at No. 5 Georgia (-17), 3:30pm ET on SECN.
In looking at this game I’ve noticed that the majority of people are picking Tech to cover.
Yeah, that’s not going to happen.
In Athens, one week before they play Alabama again – in a HUGE game for all sorts of reasons and you’re telling me that the Bulldogs won’t beat the Yellow Jackets by a little more than two touchdowns?
Please. Georgia by a lot.
Upset alert: Tennessee at Vanderbilt (-3.5), 4:00pm ET on SECN.
There was a time when Vanderbilt being favored over Tennessee made me laugh.
Hell, when the Commodores won in 2005 to end what was like a 75-year losing streak I called every single Vol fan I knew and just laughed.
Now with Vandy winning four out of the last six between the two things are just sad.
I’ll call it right now: if Tennessee doesn’t win this game they won’t play for anything important for another five years.
Keep an eye on: Auburn at No. 1 Alabama (-24), 3:30pm ET on CBS.
Only because it’s the Iron Bowl.
And no, I don’t think this game will be close after the first quarter. If even that.
Trending up: SEC Championship Game.
We’ll get more into this game next week, but for now the stage is set.
Alabama vs. Georgia with playoffs on the line.
Trending down: The stock market, errr, playoffs.
What happens if Georgia wins?
