The CBB Daily Dunkle – 1/25/17 (5-5)
Indiana State didn’t come through last night plus the points with a massive disparity in charity stripe trips being the big kicker. Twice as many fouls were called on Indiana State last night and this was tough to battle back from. Indiana State attempted 16 more shots, turned the ball over less, doubled Southern Illinois on the offensive glass, but ultimately the fouls proved to be a problem too big. I’d bet a team like Indiana State in that spot everyday. Onto today, I have one team in a similar position to Indiana State yesterday.
Northeastern +2 vs Hofstra
Before going into the write-up it’s worth noting, this line opened at +1, yet has since moved to +2 at most spots. These two teams played in Northeastern’s gym on Jan 2nd, and Hofstra squeaked out a close game 71-70. Since this game, Northeastern has won 5 of 6, and I’m sure they will be prepared for this game knowing they lost a game they should have won a few weeks back against these guys. As per Kenpom, Hofstra is one of the worst teams in the country at opponent defensive FG% and Northeastern is one of the best in the league in effective offensive FG %. Hofstra is a bigger team and a much better rebounding team, but in the first meeting Northeastern didn’t shoot all that well, as per their usual. This was primarily because Northeastern attempted 34 three pointers which drove down the overall shooting %, but it’s worth noting they shot over 60% in front of the arc. I don’t expect Northeastern to be as trigger happy from outside as they were in the first match-up and get quality looks inside to hang around all night.
