I really don’t see these two teams making much of a change from last year in terms of stature. Last year, VT won by 11 at Georgia Tech. I think 9 points is a lot but I’d go with VT.

Paul Johnson’s track record when people have time to prepare for his offense is not good and Georgia Tech has consistently opened with patsies in the past. Tech is typically better once they get into the season and get some real-time reps under them. I also think they will be better once they replace Washington as QB mid-way through the season.

I would be more apt if given the right number, to take the under in this game. With just 3 starters returning on offense for VT, we know there will be a little bit of a learning curve. I also think with Al Groh entering his third year as DC of GT, this defense should have a pretty good handle on things compared to the youthful defense they had last season in which they had no starters coming back in the defensive backfield. What it comes down to is an inexperienced OL (VT) vs an inexperiened DL (GT). I can see some very conservative playcalling in this game.
