College Hoops Pick – March 5th, 2015

YTD: 7-10

Wisconson (-7) @ Minnesota

It’s never easy to win on the road at Minnesota, but Wisconsin is one of the teams in the Big Ten that can do it. Although they come into tonight’s game with a fairly average 14-14-1 record ATS, Wisconsin’s star player Frank Kaminsky has simply been dominant in the Badgers’ last 3 games, averaging 23.0 PPG–well over his season average of 18.1–and shooting the ball at a rate of over 60%. These numbers are impressive and are part of the reason that Kaminsky will be a finalist for this years Wooden Award, but the question for Wisconsin has been the supporting cast. In their last game vs. Minnesota, Bronson Koenig provided a supporting scorer role while the rest of the team struggled, but tonight we expect a much more collective effort. Wisconsin is out to prove their dominance as we progess into the Big Ten tournament, and expect Sam Dekker and Nigel Hayes to join Kaminsky in the scoring ranks tonight. Minnesota has a couple of capable scorers in Andre Hollins and Maurice Walker, but Wisconsin’s defense has been very tough lately, even on the road. I just don’t think the Golden Gophers have enough offense to break down Wisconsin’s D, and Kaminsky will surely go for 20+ in what I expect to be a dominant performance that sees Wisconsin easily covering the spread.
