College Football Notes – 02.27.15

I didn’t have as many Spring practice articles as I expected in my feeds this week, but I did read several good college football articles to share with everyone.

BYU AD Tom Holmoe: ‘Intention’ is to find Power 5 home in ‘near future’

From GoSooners with the following lament: BYU still trying to figure a way to slither into a Power 5 conference. I’m not sure who would want them. I don’t want them in the Big 12. We’ve already got one prima donna with Texas. We don’t need another…

However, IMO, the Big 12 is really their only option. The Pac-12 doesn’t want anything to do with them, and they don’t need another team. Whereas the Big 12 needs two additional teams to qualify for a Conference Championship game, so both BYU and the Big 12 are left with few options.

Had the Big 12 been able to play a Conference Championship game last year, Ohio State would not even have made the playoffs, it would have either been TCU or Baylor. Therefore the Big 12 has to add a couple teams in order to play the much needed Conference Championship gam. The ACC has already said that they won’t include BYU as a Power 5 school in their scheduling (UPDATE: it was pointed out to me today by @Matthew Smith that the ACC has done an about face concerning this). so the Mormons need a Power 5 Conference to join.

Looks like a match made in heaven …. literally. HA! HA!

I’ll predict BYU & Houston end up in the Big 12 …. eventually.

Good breakdown of SEC rosters based n recruiting rankings over the past five cycles. Mizzou? Go figure.

Sefo Liufau expects close losses to become wins for Colorado

I saw nearly every CU game last year, and there were three games they most definitely should have won where they ended up losing. They lost to Cal & UCLA in OT, in games they should have won in regulation. They had Utah beat the entire game until Sefo threw a ridiculously bad pick six late in the game.

Sefo also made a HUGE clock blunder at the end of the first half of the Washington game, and I believe he threw a few ill timed INT’s in that game too, or the Buffs could have beaten the Huskies.

So winning a few of those games next season certainly isn’t out of the question. But it will depend a lot on Sefo’s decision making. He needs to make better decisions, especially in critical situations (3rd downs and in the red zone).

College Football’s Top 20 Running Backs on the Rise for 2015

Good list of some up and coming RB’s for next season, several I wasn’t aware of. They list ASU’s Demario Richard, who is a tough runner. ASU also returns D.J. Foster, but he is going to play more receiver in 2015.
