College Football Notes – 02.10.15
Starting to see a lot of preseason rankings, and also some of the school specific blogs are starting to breakdown returning starters & position groups. Duke started Spring practice last week and I believe I read that Colorado starts this week.
Nearly a record high in Phoenix yesterday (83 degrees). I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine 🙂
Miscellaneous
QB Keeton gets medical hardship
Chuckie gets another year at Utah State. I like it. I always enjoyed watching him play. I also read an article that said he might transfer to Oregon State (new Beaver HC Anderson was his coach at Utah State a few years ago).
Did Harbaugh take shot at OSU about Mike Weber?
A little humor for everyone to start their day. I found this article pretty funny. Harbaugh’s Twitter shot was good, but Ohio State’s response was even better. I’m personally hoping Harbaugh gets Blue back on track so we can see this rivalry get fun again.
Bob Stoops explains what Lincoln Riley brings to Oklahoma
Stoops and OU getting back to their Air Raid roots?
Ralph Friedgen not expected to return as Rutgers offensive coordinator
This could be a tough blow for the Scarlett Knights. If Friedgen doesn’t return, it would mean Rutgers will be working with their six OC in as many years.
Vernon Adams arrives at Oregon ready to be Ducks’ next star QB
I included an article last week about Adams maybe transferring to Oregon. It is now official. Bruce Feldman, one of my favorite CFB writers, gives us a good breakdown of Adams in this piece.
Wisconsin football 2015 preview: Way-too-early look at quarterbacks
An early position review of the Wisconsin QB spot. Both Stave and McEvoy return, but neither was very effective last season. The article projects Stave to win the competition and I agree. McEvoy is a good athlete (has starting safety experience), but just not a very accurate passer.
Preseason College Football Rankings
A lot of, probably meaningless, preseason college football rankings are out. Here are a few that caught my eye this past week.
Ohio State at top of Preseason FPI
ESPN’s FPI, which is an estimate of team strength – not a ranking of who will have the highest win total – put out their first preseason ranking of the year. ASU is 20th.
College Football Recruiting Overview for 2015
Quick review of last weeks recruiting rankings (USC with top class). Also includes a top 5 heading into next season ….. and projects Trevone Boykin as the Heisman Trophy winner.
Ole Miss deserves preseason Top 10 billing thanks to strength up front
Good article that explains why Ole Miss may be undervalued heading into next season. Despite losing 3-year starter Bo Wallace at QB (is that a bad thing?), the Rebels return all 9 starters along the LOS and add the #1 JC defensive lineman.
