College Football Notes: 01.29.15
College football never sleeps. So in order to keep up with all the latest college football news and get prepared for the 2015 season, I am constantly reading as much information as possible.
I wanted to start a weekly post with you all and share some of the interesting articles I have read in the past few days, and maybe add a little commentary and a few random thoughts. I have also asked GoSooners and Sabert to send me any interesting articles they have come across so as to share them with everyone.
If any of you guys have any great CFB articles to share, please post them in the comments section below. Thx.
SEC QUARTERBACKS
I read a couple of interesting articles about SEC QB’s this week, and neither of them was very positive. Both articles suggested that poor QB play this season was the major reason why the conference had a down year.
NFL draft QBs could explain SEC’s down year in 2015
This article mentions that last year at this time the SEC had arguably their best crop of QBs ever getting ready for the NFL Draft. Whereas today, the conference may not have a QB drafted for the first time in 19 years.
Where have all the (SEC) quarterbacks gone?
And things do not look to improve any in the near future. As many as half the teams in the league may have new QB’s this year and the returning starters aren’t really household names either.
ATS & OVER/UNDER NUMBERS
I read a few interesting articles from Dave Bartoo over at CFBMatrix that I thought might come in handy for us next year.
Some good ATS and totals info on which teams have performed well ATS and have gone OVER the total in the last 10 years.
Top teams in the last ten years to fade and go under with.
RETURNING STARTERS
A couple brief posts about returning starters.
7 takeaways on college football’s list of returning starters in 2015
Some good info in this piece including the ALWAYS positive pre-season out look for Notre Dame. But of course then the season starts and ….
RECRUITING
There is an endless stream of recruiting info out there right now, so I’ll just post this piece about Texas for this week.
How Charlie Strong and Texas can steal National Signing Day
OREGON FOOTBALL
And of course I would be remiss if I didn’t include some PAC-12 football notes.
Oregon Ducks Will Not Return to College Football Playoff in 2015
Good breakdown of why Oregon isn’t likely to return to the CFB Playoffs next year. Despite losing Mariota they are still loaded on offense. It’s the defense, which wasn’t all that good last year anyhow, and a more difficult schedule that are likely to keep Oregon from returning.
Take Two: Is Oregon a preseason top-10 team?
Despite losing Mariota, a handful f NFL caliber defenders and a more difficult schedule in 2015, this will still be a very good Oregon football team.
EWU QB Vernon Adams Visiting Oregon
I read this one this morning and thought it was pretty interesting. Oregon will be loaded on offense next season, all they are lacking is a proven QB. Sounds like Adams could be a good fit.
PAC 12 FOOTBALL BABY!
A few more from the Conference of Champions.
Why the early 2015 college football rankings like ASU, Arizona
How Arizona State football could shape up in 2015
A few articles from last week discussing ASU & Arizona’s outlook for 2015. With USC shaping up to land another Top 10 recruiting class, UCLA returning a PAC 12 most 18 starters and Utah also looking formidable again, the PAC 12 South should be wide open AGAIN in 2015.
These are actually the January 27, 2015, PAC 12 links from ESPN. But they include two pretty funny Doritos’ “Crash the Super Bowl” contest commercials submitted by tTwo groups of alums from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. I personally preferred the first one, but liked them both. They are both towards the bottom of the page.
