Looking Ahead to College Football 2015

The 2014 college football season has come to an end, but college football itself never sleeps. In fact the 2015 season is already upon us with several early pre-season projections already out, and national signing day right around the corner.

I came upon a an article from the Union-Tribune San Diego entitled Look Ahead at 2015 College Football that had a pretty good list of some of the more important dates for the upcoming 2015 college football season. I have shared them with you below, and I have tossed a few extra dates in as well.

Looking Ahead to College Football 2015

[box] • Feb 4: Don’t look now, but national signing day is right around the corner. Currently, ESPN has the top five classes listed as (in order) Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Clemson and Tennessee. Will those rankings hold true?

• April 18: The University of Texas Orange-White Spring game to be televised on the Longhorn Network at 5 p.m. (PST). Most other colleges have their annual spring games right around this time, too.

• Spring or summer: The Big 12 Conference (which currently has 10 teams) has petitioned to be allowed to have a conference championship game even though they have fewer than the 12 teams required. A ruling should come down some time in the spring or summer and could have a big influence on the 2015 college football playoff.

• Late July: Conference media days. This didn’t used to be noteworthy. But now it is a major event for some conferences, particularly the SEC, which usually has its event in Birmingham, Ala.

• Sept. 3: Major college football returns and an old rivalry is renewed when the SEC’s South Carolina travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on the ACC’s North Carolina.

• Sept. 5: Arizona State opens their 2015 season against Texas A & M at NRG Stadium in Houston. Two of Athlon’s Top Five Teams on the Rise in 2015.

• Sept. 7: Motivation won’t be a factor when defending national champion Ohio State returns to the field. The Buckeyes will be in Blacksburg, Va. to face Virginia Tech, the only team that beat it in the 2014-15 season.

• Sept. 26: San Diego State travels to University Park, Pa., to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions.

• Oct. 3: New Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh makes his Big Ten debut at Maryland.

• Oct. 17: Notre Dame’s annual beatdown at the hands of USC (Trojans hammered them 49-14 in 2014).

• Nov. 28: Rivalry Saturday includes UCLA at USC, Alabama at Auburn, Florida State at Florida and Ohio State at Michigan, among others.

• Dec. 4: Pac-12 Championship Game

• Dec. 5: SEC, ACC, Mountain West and Big Ten conference championship games.

• Dec. 6: College football playoff matchups anounced.

• Dec. 12: 2015 Heisman Trophy presentation at the Downtown Athletic Club in New York.

• Dec. 23: Poinsettia Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

• Dec. 30: Holdiday Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

• Dec. 31: National semifinal games hosted by the Cotton Bowl and the Orange Bowl.

• Jan. 1, 2016: Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., Rose Bowl in Pasadena and Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

• Jan. 11, 2016: National championship game at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

• Feb. 3, 2016: National signing day.[/box]

Actually it’ll be in Glendale where they hold the Fiesta Bowl and this year’s Super Bowl.

I saw the Irish were 16-1 to win the NC and USC and ASU were 20-1 & 30-1 …. apparently no one saw the Irish play those two teams last year …

      104 to 45 comes to mind 🙂
