The Keydets don’t have the best defense in the league, in fact it is one of the worst, so typically I would stay away from this type of game, but their motivation to play good defense comes tonight. The last time VMI played Mercer they were beat 90-81 with only 37% shooting from the field. Combined with their third consecutive loss I expect the defense to be cranked up a notch, especially at home where they have suffered only one loss this year.

The Bears on the other hand, have only one win on the road and will be playing their 5th consecutive road game. Although Mercer plays better defense, their offense does not compare to VMI’s. It’s a lot easier to play better defense than offense, when need be. I fully expect the Keydets to do what they do best, put up points, in which they average 85 ppg and have a rare defensive game to avenge last month’s loss.

I like VMI, who are finally back at home and in their comfort zone to play physical basketball and run the ball up and down the court to wear down a Mercer team that has not been home since the 19th of December. Take the small number. Go Keydets!
