Daily Fantasy College Football: Week 14 Picks

Well, this is it as far as regular season college football goes as this is the last week with a full slate of games. It has been fun this year making these picks as some of them have been outstanding and others didn’t pan out like I expected. Hopefully, all of you have enjoyed this as much as I have and I look forward to continuing writing for the Saturday Edge.
QUARTERBACKS
Top Play: Taysom Hill, BYU (at Nevada)- Hill is a primed for an outstanding game against Nevada. The Wolfpack are ranked in the bottom 10 in rush defense giving up 246 yards per contest. As many of you know, Hill is more valuable as a runner than as a passer. I think it’s safe to expect at least three touchdowns from Mr. Hill this week.
Top Play: Braxton Miller, Ohio State (at Michigan)- I am beginning to wonder when the Heisman conversation will make its way to Columbus. Maybe it’s because Miller was injured early on this season but since his return, not many have been better at the position. I had him as a top play last week and I am picking him again this week as this game is crucial to the Buckeyes’ season and National Championship chances. Look for Miller to show off his skills quite a bit in this game as Michigan is having a mediocre season.
Value Play: A.J. McCarron, Alabama (at Auburn)- In his career, McCarron has only lost twice. Sure, he can’t be given the credit for all of his teams’ wins but he played a pretty big part especially in the bigger games. This week’s game may be the biggest (minus the two NC games) yet. He is going up against an Auburn defense that hasn’t been particularly great this year. They are ranked just inside the top 100 in passing yards allowed and we all know what kind of weapons McCarron has at his disposal. For $5,500, McCarron may be an absolute steal.
Value Play: Connor Cook, Michigan State (vs. Minnesota)- It’s not often I choose a B1G quarterback other than Braxton Miller, but I like what Cook has been doing. He has thrown 16 touchdowns to just three interceptions. These may not sound like great numbers, but I like his matchup this week against Minnesota. I think Cook will have to be really good in this game and for $3,500 he is a low risk option.
RUNNING BACKS
Top Play: Andre Williams, Boston College (at Syracuse)- I’ll keep it short. This guy is a stud. He is the only player that has rushed for over 2,000 yards this season and he shouldn’t be slowed down by Syracuse although their defense isn’t bad against the run. Play with confidence again this week.
Top Play: Todd Gurley, Georgia (vs. Georgia Tech)- Gurley is fully healthy (or at least he looks it anyway) and the Georgia offense needs him to be great this week. With senior quarterback and leader Aaron Murray going down with an ACL injury, Gurley’s role is magnified. Expect him to carry the ball a little more often and receive some more checkdowns from the back up Hutson Masonat quarterback.
Value Play: D.J. Foster, Arizona State (vs. Arizona)- Rumor has it that touchdown machine Marion Grice is down with an injury. If so, Foster is now the prime ball carrier for this offense. He is facing a hot Arizona team that is coming off a surprising win against Oregon. Look for Arizona State to be well prepared and Foster to shine. He is at a great price of $5,500 so check on Grice’s status closer to game time to make this call.
Value Play: Akeem Hunt, Purdue (at Indiana)- Purdue is terrible, I know. The good thing is that Indiana is not very good defensively especially against the run. In fact, they are ranked 3rd from the bottom against the run, giving up over 250 yards per game. Hunt should be able to have a nice day and for $3,750, he may turn out to be a very solid play.
WIDE RECEIVERS
Top Play: Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt (vs. Wake Forest)- The nation’s active leader in receiving yards takes on a Wake Forest team that is just 4-7. Matthews hasn’t been stopped by many this season and is coming off of two fantastic games where he caught 25 total passes for 274 yards combined. Look for him to post something similar to the last two games as this senior is trying to improve his draft stock this coming year.
Top Play: Jamison Crowder, Duke (at North Carolina)- One of the reasons that Duke is 9-2 this season, Crowder is one of the nation’s leading wideouts. He has caught over 1,000 yards and actually lit up that previously mentioned Wake Forest defense for 121 yards and two touchdowns last week. Look for Crowder to be targeted against North Carolina often as Duke looks to achieve its tenth win of the season.
Value Play: Ty Montgomery, Stanford (vs. Notre Dame)- Montgomery is the playmaker for this usually run-oriented Stanford offense. He is used in all facets of the games as was evident last week against Cal. Sure, Notre Dame is a stiffer test than Cal, but I believe Montgomery will be used often and will find the end zone at least once in this historic rivalry. For $4,750, he may a great WR3 option this week.
Value Play: Jaelen Strong, Arizona State (vs. Arizona)- Strong is one of the nation’s most underrated receviers. He has caught 65 passes this season, totaling 925 yards. He should be able to have a nice day against Arizona and for the price of $3,750, Strong is a pretty safe choice.
TIGHT END
Top Play: Jake Murphy, Utah (at Colorado)- Murphy has quietly posted some great numbers since returning from injury. In the last two games he has caught seven passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns. Look for him to have plenty of room against a terrible Colorado defense this week.
