Yesterday we kicked off our ACC football Q & A sessions by talking about the teams that could contend for the Atlantic & Coastal Division Titles. Today we will take a look at some of the unknown players in the conference who could become stars this season.

Sean Keeley of Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician: I’m biased but I think a lot of folks are sleeping on Syracuse RB Jerome Smith. He had one of the single-best seasons in SU history last year and is poised to be just as good, if not better.

Assuming he wins the job, Oklahoma transfer QB Drew Allen could end up turning a so-so Syracuse squad into a bowl contender.

Pete Volk of Testudo Times: Deon Long at Maryland is a JuCo transfer who set all of the JuCo receiving records last season. He and Stefon Diggs will be the star wideouts for Maryland this year, and they could make up one of the best receiving tandems in the country.

Brian Lewis of Shakin the Southland: The unknown guy I’m interested in comes from Clemson. Wide receiver Martavius Bryant has always had talent and potential, but he hasn’t quite put it together. Now with DeAndre Hopkins gone and Sammy Watkins the only established starter, Bryant has a good chance to show his talent. Reports from Clemson indicate he’s been putting in some good work during the offseason.

I’m also interested in FSU quarterback Jameis Winston. He did well enough in the spring to force Clint Trickett to transfer, and if FSU has any hopes of winning the ACC Winston is going to have to come up big.

Joe Micik of Soaring to Glory: I don’t have a name to put to it (because frankly, we don’t know who it’s going to be yet) but whomever replaces Chris Pantale as BC’s starting tight end is one.  Steve Addazio really favors the position and I think TEs will get a lot more involved in the Eagles offense.

I also like FSU’s Mario Edwards, Jr. to pick up some of the slack left behind by Bjorn Werner and Tank Carradine, amongst others, on defense.

Nick Keninitz of Shell Shocked Sports: Alex Amidon, the WR from Boston College, is a guy who still is not known nearly as well as he should be after making All-ACC first team last year during his junior season.

Eddie Goldman from Florida State was a huge recruit who is poised to have a big year as he fills in as a full-time starter on the defensive line for the Seminoles.  He has the potential to be one of the most dominant players in the conference.
