Syracuse Football 2013 Position Grades

Syracuse Offense

QB: B    Of the trio of quarterbacks currently in camp, Terrel Hunt has emerged as a solid leader. However, he’ll be battling with incoming Oklahoma transfer Drew Allen come Fall, and Allen isn’t coming here because he wants to sit on the bench.

RB: B+   Not only did returning RB Jerome Smith look solid this spring but up and coming sophomore George Morris really made himself known. Prince-Tyson Gulley should be back at full-strength this Fall.

WR: C+   Jarrod West is the undisputed No. 1 but there’s a lot of question marks behind him.

TE: B    Beckett Wales leads a strong group. If he can get healthy in time, Ron Thompson could be a beast for this offense.

OL: C+   By all accounts Syracuse is adjusting well to the loss of Justin Pugh and Zach Chibane, but uncertainly remains.

Syracuse Defense & Special Teams

DL: B-   Some good feedback this spring regarding returning players and JUCO transfers, but no superstars emerging.

LB: B+   Dyshawn Davis continues to rehab his injury, JUCO transfer Josh Kirland made an impact and Marquis Spruill should be back to full strength. This unit continues to be among the team’s strongest.

DB: C    Keon Lyn should be solid but every other position remains a big question mark. Can Wayne Morgan replace hard-hitting safety Shamarko Thomas?

ST: C+  Lots of returning talent at all special teams positions but nothing that made anyone say wow this spring.
