Abandon ship!

You know what, good for Arkansas.

The Razorbacks snapped their 20-game conference losing streak by upsetting Mississippi State 21-14 on Saturday and unfortunately we took a loss on that game as well.

We’re now 1-1 on the season and 46-32 overall since 2015.

As for our other highlighted games, Tennessee beat up on Missouri 35-12 and Lane Kiffin got his first win as Ole Miss head coach as the Rebels beat Kentucky in overtime 42-41.

We’re moving on to week 6…

SEC Pick of the Week: No. 3 Florida (-6.5) at No. 20 Texas A&M, 12:00pm ET on ESPN.

The first true test of the season begins for the Gators as they travel to A&M to face the Aggies in their third consecutive noon kickoff on ESPN to begin the season.

The #Kyle2Kyle connection between quarterback Kyle Trask and tight end Kyle Pitts remained strong last week against South Carolina with two more touchdowns as the Gators rolled 38-24 over the Gamecocks.

I’m not as worried as some about the Gators’ defense that has given up nearly 1,000 yards and 60 points to Mississippi State and South Carolina combined through two weeks, mostly because the offense continues to roll like an unstoppable machine.

As for Texas A&M, well, once again they are showing signs of failing to live up to even decent expectations as they were demolished by Alabama 52-24 last week which followed a 17-12 opening week win against lowly Vanderbilt.

There’s more on both these teams below in our trending up/trending down sections but for now I’m rolling with the Gators.

I just don’t see A&M being able to hang with the Gators for four quarters.

It’ll probably be close early before the Gators pull away with something like a 42-24 or 45-31 win.

Upset alert: No. 2 Alabama (-24) at Ole Miss, 6:00pm ET on ESPN.

We’ve arrived here for two reasons:

1. Ole Miss always seems to play Alabama tough when their the home team.

2. Lane Kiffin.

Can Kiffin become the first former assistant to defeat Nick Saban as the Lane Train pulls into the station?

The opening line of 23 points is obviously over three touchdowns and while I’m not going to predict an upset here I very easily could see Ole Miss covering in what could become a shootout.

Keep an eye on: No. 12 Tennessee at No. 3 Georgia (-12.5), 3:30pm ET on CBS.

Another rivalry game for the Bulldogs and the first true test for a revitalized Volunteer program that some people (not me) are high on.

I like Georgia big here and the only reason this game is in this spot is because it is a rivalry game and as we all know anything can happen in a rivalry game.

Are the Vols really back? We’ll find out. But I have my doubts.

Keep an eye on II: Arkansas at No. 13 Auburn (-13.5), 4:00pm ET on SECN.

Auburn is reeling and Arkansas is not. As mentioned above, the Razorbacks snapped their 20-game conference losing streak in beating Mississippi State on Saturday as a pick-6 proved to be the difference.

Auburn meanwhile laid another egg in losing to Georgia and looked all out of sorts on offense and on defense in the process.

Gus Malzahn is really going to start feeling the heat if this game is close. The pundits (again, not me) thought that maybe the Tigers were a top-10 team. If the Hogs can cover here, which I think they’re capable of, it might be time for everyone to jump off the Gus Bus.

Trending up: Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

It’s painfully clear that there are three elite teams in the conference this year: Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Two of those teams have an issue or two (Georgia on offense, maybe and Florida on defense, slightly more than maybe) and one (Alabama) looks better than ever.

All three teams are currently ranked in the top-5 and all three teams look like legitimate playoff contenders.

Alabama, as mentioned above looks to be complete but Florida has a an offense and Georgia has a defense.

The question is whether or not these three teams can keep this up throughout the year. My votes as of now are yes to Alabama and Florida and Georgia, yeah, we’ll see. Georgia plays Alabama and Florida in a week or so and Florida plays LSU and Georgia coming up in the future.

Trending down: Auburn and Texas A&M.

It seems as if Auburn makes an appearance in this section once a year. If it wasn’t for Gus Malzahn’s penchant for beating Alabama like every other year he’d probably have been fired a few years ago because it just seems like he can’t ever win a big game.

The latest: a loss, err… blowout at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night. He just can’t ever seem to get it together and Bo Nix isn’t going to be the answer to his prayers.

Ahh, our friends at Texas A&M. I honestly don’t even know where to begin. As a Gator even I could have told you that I’ve never been high on Jimbo Fisher and that contract looks abysmal now.

They do get a shot at redemption this week however as the Gators travel to Kyle Field and a win would go a long way towards … yeah, maybe a 7-3 or at best an 8-2 season.

Is that what the Aggies signed up for when they gave Fisher that 10-year contract? I don’t think so.
