The Chicago Blackhawks have found their footing, as they are currently on a two game winning streak after losing their first three games of the season. The Capitals too are going to be looking to extend a two game winning streak.

The Washington Capitals have put their defensive lapses topics to rest with two hard fought wins where they did not blow late leads that that had been an issue earlier on. Today, they leave home for the first time in over a week and receive considerable favor coming into this one. Washington has been one of the NHL’s marquee teams over the past decade, and there is an understanding that the Chicago Blackhawks are no longer in the elite category. With two wins won with a gelling offense, I believe that this line has been set in regards to the concept that the Capitals are currently in groove, and will be one of the best teams when they are. In my opinion however, the Capitals have had very favorable situations lately, including taking on a Leafs team on their back to back and also taking advantage of a rebuilding Rangers team that has been playing as few and far between as an NFL team to start the season.

While Chicago has also been one of the more preserved teams in hockey, playing just five games so far, they are also heading in the right direction and gaining momentum. Although the Blackhawks major concern is the amount of shots that they typically give up, they have done a good job getting the right balance of offense,defense, and goaltending to win the last couple of games. I expect it to get even better from here on, and I expect a bit of a shock to the system for the Capitals today.

Flames moneyline +115  1*

Before we get started, we have three things that really influence this line setting here. First would be the obvious Anaheim hot 6-2 start. Second would be the fact that the Flames really do not have much luck in Anaheim, having just one win at the pond in over a decade despite being in the same conference. Third would be the fact that the Flames are on a back to back.

If not for these somewhat meaningless factors (situation wise), we probably have a very even matchup.

I will not discredit Anaheim and their new impressive defensive system that also focuses on aggressive forechecks, but Calgary should be one step closer to being in better rhythm tonight. After a poor outing just thirty miles away yesterday night, expect the Flames to be warm and ready to put their road woes aside. Look for their passing to be more crisp, and their speed to be more in sync with their game plan today. I think Anaheim will be on their heels if Calgary does all the right things today.
