SabertStxVii Week 1 College Football Picks
The best time of year has finally come. Week 1 is here and so are my college football picks. I know all of us have spent lots of time planning for the upcoming season. I’m sure most of you, like myself, have been figuring what games to go to, what to bring to the tailgates, and most importantly, how to win some money.
Agreed. Tuel and Wilson are both NFL quality, and if they didn’t play in the same league as Barkley, Woods and Lee they’d probably be borderline AA candidates (Wilson actually led the PAC 12 in rec yards last year).
But that is about all WSU has going for them right now. Both lines are pretty weak and BYU has a HUGE defensive advantage in this game.
As I have written in several other places on the site, I’m not a huge Riley Nelson fan, I’ve just never seen him throw the ball well. But he is a leader and from everything I am being told, his passing improved in fall camp. Whether it has or not shouldn’t make too much of a difference in this game.
I agree. I think for me it came down to WSU literally having no defense, and BYU having some sort of defense. I think BYU comes up with a few stops.
Am slightly worried about the backdoor with Leach and their offense. Early season, low units though.
Like I said in my thread, I have a serious lean to BYU with this line going down. The line going down under 13 was a key number for me. I’m curious to see if it goes down even further. It’s always hard to tell exactly what a team is going to do with a first year coach. Especially a Mike Leach. But the big problem I have with WSU is their weak front 7, plus going to a new 3-4 scheme on D. My first feeling when I saw this game is BYU is just going to pound this team on the ground, control the clock and sit back and play pass D since WSU doesn’t have any kind of a running game. Good luck. I like the play.
GS,
Felt good about BYU last night. Always nice to crush the first play of the season!
I think once BYU got the rusty-ness off, they absolutely dominated the game. People forget how much they returned in experience and leadership and how well they are coached.
I think WSU also is just not on the same page yet with the Leach offense. They will be a good team, and possibly a good team to look at closely down the road, especially if they get blown out again.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Just my luck that the one game you lose today is Auburn, the game I make as our upset of the day. Great job Sabert.
