Avalanche/Maple Leafs:

The red hot Colorado Avalanche are amidst a nine game winning streak, as they come into the Eastern Time Zone for the first time since early December. Colorado has been in amazing rhythm, but there has also been a lot of homeostasis for them in playing nine of their last ten games at home. There have been little climate or biological clock adjustments made, especially since a bye week was also incorporated into the favorable schedule at home as well. Today however, they will leave their comfort zone and head east a couple of time zones to face a dangerous Maple Leafs team.

Toronto themselves are coming off just having broke a four game winning streak, and are looking to build on that. The Leafs have been known to be a little streaky this year, and I think this streak will snowball.

The Avalanche has a morning skate at ACC today, but I still think their biological clocks may be a little disoriented today against a very potent offense.

Islanders/Coyotes:

The New York Islanders will spend a few days in the desert, as they have a game tonight against the Arizona Coyotes and then one in three days in Las Vegas. In the past three seasons, both the Islanders and Coyotes have held their own at home against each other. I believe that this has a lot to do with the contrast between Barclays Center’s setting and Gila River Arena’s, plus the unfamiliarity between these two in general.

The Islanders are coming off a 7-3 win in Chicago, and their offense looks very good lately. However, they have only scored six combined goals in their past five visits to Arizona. I expect their run and gun game to get derailed again today.

The Coyotes are seeing wins very few and far between, but I really believe they have a nice advantage here after beating the Blues. Arizona should have the upper hand in how to play under the conditions and nature of their own building, and I expect them to dictate this one.
