Razors NHL 01/19/2017 (YTD 60-55 +5.03 units)

Golden Knights/Panthers:

The Las Vegas Golden Knights will continue their short tour of Florida after a 4-1 against a sluggish Lightning team coming off the bye week last night. Today, they will face the Florida Panthers, who are also coming off their bye week. Circumstances should be generally the same as yesterday, except the Knights will be partially drained from having played last night against the NHL’s best team.

The short moneyline suggests that this is one of those home games that Florida will be ready for, but I’m not buying that. Whether they win or lose, it will be natural for them to be a little less sharp in shooting, and in their offensive schemes coming off the break. Expect the Panthers to use tonight as a warm up for tomorrow’s game in Nashville.

The Vegas Knights will continue to use their forecheck, and probably lean on their puck possession a little more tonight, as they have developed a puck management system on top of their five man forecheck. I expect this to be a tight one.

Capitals/Canadiens:

The Washington Capitals will host the Montreal Canadiens, in a matchup where both teams are looking to rebound.

The Washington Capitals are coming off their bye week return game last night in New Jersey. They did not do too bad, as they were able to force overtime with a late third period goal. Despite their last ten, Barry Trotz has always proven to coach the best game when he takes a defensive approach. Tonight off a back to back, expect the Capitals to either have a better defensive first part of the game to conserve energy, or to score quick goals and play a neutral zone type of game.

The Montreal Canadiens offense has proven to be quite pathetic as of late, averaging just 1.8 goals per game in their last ten. Now that their main leaders have come back down to earth, they are just a plain bad offense and still without one of their top scorers in Phillip Danault. With another revenge opportunity coming at home tomorrow against the Bruins, I don’t expect the Habs to be wasting too much energy tonight. I expect them to lean on their puck possession game, which ranks 11th in the NHL. There will be a lot of time wasted here, and I really don’t see the Habs doing anything special tonight.

I will go with a rare side and total in the same game today.
