College Football Picks – SEC Week # 1

College football kicks off in less than 75 days with Vanderbilt hosting South Carolina in the SEC opener, Thursday, August 30th. There are several other games involving SEC teams on opening weekend, so it seemed only appropriate that we start analyzing the match ups and making some college football picks.

Ward actually coached the bowl game vs Nebraska FWIW.
Hi Art, thanks for the info. How’s Jerry doing (just kidding)? Ward has a lot of talent to work with on the South Carolina D. He should be fine.
Any strong opinions on any of these games?
Thanks again – Pez
Love the South Carolina pick. I’m gonna be all over that one when it comes time for football season. Lattimore is gonna tear it up his first game back.
Not hugely in love with your Auburn pick. The Tigers are still confused on this side of the ball, and the loss of Michael Dyer’s going to hurt them.
As for Clemson, they’ve got everything to play for – including a lot of pride after getting SEVENTY put on them in their bowl game.
The big issue is going to be Sammy Watkins: How long is he going to be out for for the drug arrest? Tigers fans are hoping that can get shut down to a misdemeanor, but I think it’s going to be difficult.
The line was down to 3 last I looked. If it stays there or drops further, at the very least I will have gotten a good number (which seems to guarantee me nothing. LOL!).
I agree that the Auburn offense is a huge question mark. But Clemson’s OL and DL are pretty inexperienced. I’ll take better lines over better skill players all day long.
But for me the real issue was the line value. Clemson was a 4 point favorite in Death Valley last year w/ a far more experienced team vs a very young Auburn playing their first road game.
So a less experienced Clemson opens as a 6 point favorite on a neutral field against a more experienced Auburn team?
I just didn’t understand that and jumped on Auburn.
