The SEC’s Top 5 Defenses for 2015

The SEC’s Top 5 Defenses for 2015

The SEC has been known as the home to great college football defenses over the last several years, but offenses around the nation are definitely catching up. Despite the SEC defenses not being as dominant as they have in the recent past, they still boasted five of the top fifteen defenses and six of the top twenty in 2014 in terms of Total Defense, and four of the top ten in terms of scoring defense.

With a good to great defense in the SEC, you are in contention for the SEC Championship and with that let’s take a look at my top five projected SEC Defenses for 2015.

Before we start, you might be scratching your heads at a couple of teams that are not included in the Top 5, LSU and Florida. I think both of these two teams have the talent to be top five but it’s not always about talent, sometimes it’s about coaching. LSU lost defensive coordinator John Chavis this off-season and Florida lost both head coach Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator DJ Durkin, and that makes me very hesitant on pulling the trigger on either team as a top SEC defense. I don’t think they will fall completely apart, but look for them to finish among the middle of SEC defenses, which will really put the onus on their problematic offenses.

I breakdown my 5 top SEC defenses for 2015 along with some betting nuggets here at Real Clear Sports.
