College Football Notes – 03.03.15

Spring practices are beginning in earnest throughout the country this month, so I should have a lot of team news starting this week and going all the way into May.

College football 2015 Power 5 spring practice and spring game dates

Good spring schedule for the Power 5 schools and a few of the wannabe schools who wish they were in a Power 5 conference … like Notre Dame.

Spring Football Stories to Watch

Ten really good summaries of some spring stories to keep an eye on in 2015.

The script flips for Stanford at spring practice

I mentioned a week or so ago about how the Stanford offense, especially the OL, should be improved this season and the defense had some issues, especially along the DL. After their first week of practice that is exactly how things currently stand for the Cardinal.

Close Games 2014

Some more great info from Dave over at CFBMatrix. He breaks down the teams that won and lost close games in 2014 (7 points or less as the definition of a close game).

Richt: ‘QB as wide-open as it’s ever been since I’ve been at Georgia’

As mentioned on several occasions, SEC QB play was pretty bad last year, and it may not be much better this season. At the very least, several teams, including Georgia, will have inexperienced signal callers starting the 2015 season.

Quarterback should be strength across ACC

Unlike the SEC, the ACC is loaded at the QB position, despite losing a Heisman Trophy winner.

USC faces some questions heading to spring football practice

Wide receiver experience, and of course depth, are the Trojans biggest issues entering spring practice. USC returns all 5 starters along the OL, a Heisman caliber QB and are loaded with talent at the skill positions, so the offense could be really good this season. The depth issue may be alleviated somewhat this fall since this will be the Trojan’s first full recruiting class in four years.

USC spring preview: Defensive line

Speaking of USC question marks and depth issues, the DL could possibly fit that twin bill, as the Trojans need t replace All-American DT Leonard Williams.

SEC Returning Starts and Starters – 2015

Really good breakdown of not only starters returning, but of the number of starts each team is returning broken down by position. I like to look at the lines, and Ole Miss has the most OL & DL starts among SEC schools.

Which teams have the most talented rosters heading into the 2015 season?

Last week Athlon broke down the most talented SEC rosters. Here is a complete list (78 schools total).
