For Your Consideration: College Basketball February 18, 2015

Record YTD: 4-4

It’s that time of year when players tune into Sports Center each morning to see if their bubble has burst.  Are they a team in the “first in” or “first out” category?  Do they have enough quality wins? Have they suffered too many bad losses?  Their strength of schedule?  Okay…I think you get it.  George Washington fits this description almost perfectly and to be completely honest, they can’t lose again, and even if they win every game, there ticket to the Big Dance is still an uncertainty.

Davidson has not been at their best on the road with a 6-4 record this season and considering this will be their first trip to the Charles E. Smith Center, the unfamiliar grounds won’t be an advantage.  The Wildcats have one of the best offenses in the country ranking them 4th in overall, but it’s their defense that’s concerning, ranking them 269th.  They are giving up nearly 70 points a game and allowing 49% shooting from the field.

George Washington has suffered back-to-back losses, including their last game at home against VCU.  This was their first home loss of the season and I’m expecting some frustration to be taken out on the Wildcats tonight.  Having one of the better defenses in the country and a very loud venue to support them, I’m looking for a complete turnaround tonight.

Long story short, it’s a lot easier to be consistent on defense than it is on offense.  It’s why most good defensive teams do well throughout the season.  With the Colonials in the situation where they cannot afford to lose another game, I’ll be backing the better defense at home.

Consider George Washington -1.5
