College Hoops Picks – February 9th, 2015
YTD: 3-7
Oklahoma State +6.5 @ Baylor
The Big 12 this year has featured some of the most inconsistent teams in College Basketball this season. Iowa State recently beat a Texas Tech team by nearly 40 points at home after losing to them on the road earlier in the season. Kansas has yet to show anything to give us confidence that they’ll be a lock for the Elite Eight this year. Baylor and Oklahoma State have been no different. Baylor has been playing great in their last three games, in which they are 3-0 and have an average margin of victory of over 20 PPG. However, prior to this hot streak they fell to this Oklahoma State team by 11 points, a game in which Baylor shot only 34% from the field and turned it over 13 times. Oklahoma State has won 3 of its last 4, all against ranked opponents, and is coming off of their biggest win of the year after coming back from a 12 point second-half deficit at home against the 8th-ranked Jayhawks. Oklahoma State will be looking to end their streak of ranked opponents in strong fashion before they head to TCU for what would be considered an “easier” game in Big 12 Conference play. Look for Phil Forte III and Le’Bryan Nash to control the scoring in this one, with LSU-transfer point guard Anthony Hickey Jr. to run the offense and spread the floor with his shooting. Although nobody can match up with Rico Gathers and keep him off the glass, Oklahoma State has plenty of bodies to throw at him to try and get him fatigued and in foul trouble early. Oklahoma State will easily cover the spread, and we would even recommend a close examination of the money line tonight because I am putting Baylor on upset alert!
