How to Handicap College Basketball – Game Filters
As most of you know by now, we are introducing college basketball to the Saturday Edge.
My goal is to eventually have a college basketball section that has as much useful handicapping information, picks and analysis as we have for college football.
Admittedly I am not a big college basketball fan, so finding the right people to contribute to the site is very important and will take some time. I want to provide everyone with the same quality information, picks and analysis that they have come to expect from our college football writers and handicappers.
Similar to college football, where we try and provide as much useful “how to” handicap information as possible, I thought that would be a good idea for college basketball too.
So over the next several weeks I will try and find as much useful college basketball “how to” handicapping information as possible and pass it along to everyone.
As always. please feel free to add any additional information or suggestions in the comments section below.
Thank you,
Pez
Our first guest post is from Kurn at Kurn’s Picks. Kurn discusses some of the filters he uses to eliminate games from the schedule.
This is a subject we have discussed on several occasions for college football, so I thought it would be a good place to start.
The Art of having a profitable win % in CBB
CBB can be one of the hardest sports to not only Cap but also to Win at. I have come up with a system that has provided a consistent win ratio over the last 10 years. Here is some information on how I pick my CBB games to wager on each week.
A typical night during CBB season can have 40+ games on the card, so narrowing down the games is where most of my work will be done.
I first try to eliminate games that have lines of 15 or more points. I then eliminate games in which one of the teams has a starter out due to injury. After doing those 2 things I am still usually left with a big card, I then start eliminating games with line moves of 2 or more points, this is done 2 hours before tip off.
Lastly my final selections are made, these are based on Home/Away/Neutral site records, time of the season, line movement and money percentages on each team.
The 3 Biggest mistakes I see people make in handicapping sports is 1).Not managing your money right, 2). Impulse betting, and 3). Chasing losses.

Pez, this is what I have been waiting on? When do you guys expect this to go to a pay site?
Next year?
In two year?
or will it remain free when you subscribe already to the football section?
I already read and follow Adam and Gregg. I feel that you guys will have a lot of followers. NCAAB is much needed. Thanks Pez.

Hi Jerry,
I am not sure when we will move the CBB to the pay section. Hopefully next year, but I first want to assemble the right “team” of handicappers and writers to provide everyone with the same quality information and analysis that we do with CFB.
If you are a college football subscriber, I will make sure that the CBB is extremely affordable to you.
Thank you for all your support,
Pez
