Analysis of Premium BEST BET Utah -2.5 from Saturday

Massive SOS difference between these two teams. Utes played ~10th most difficult schedule in the country vs CSU ~100. 

Utah has an outstanding defense and arguably the best special teams in the country …. FG Kicker Phillips  was a Lou Groza finalist (22 of 26), P Tom Hackett won the Ray Guy award and PR Kaelin “I dropped the ball before crossing the goal line” Clay led the country with 3 punt returns for touchdowns.

I’m not thrilled with the Utah QB situation, Trevor Wilson is a chucker, but RB Devontae Booker is outstanding and Wilson is deceptively mobile. 

Utah is definitely the more battle tested team and they should also have a coaching advantage with Kyle Whittingham (6-1 SU & 5-2 ATS in bowl games) going against offensive coordinator Dave Baldwin, who will serve as the interim coach for the bowl game after McElwain bolted for Florida.

Utah leads the series 52-22-2 against Colorado State. The Utes have won 5 straight games against the Rams, but the teams haven’t played since Utah left for the Pac 12 in 2010.

After going 5-1 SU & ATS on the road this year and beating the likes of Michigan, UCLA and Stanford, I doubt the Utes will have any problems putting away a mid-major like Colorado State.
