For your consideration: Week # 14

The Egg bowl hasn’t meant this much in years.  This year one team is fighting for a playoff berth while the other is trying to save face, hoping for a New Year’s Day bowl game.

I’m on record, saying when Bo Wallace does well so do the Rebels.  I’m also on record saying, Wallace is “Hekel and Jekyll”.  In fact since becoming the starting quarterback in the 2012-2013 season, when Bo throws 2 or more interceptions resulting in a Rebels loss, Ole Miss is 7-0 ATS in their next game.

Last week vs Arkansas, Ole Miss suffered a 30-0 rout loss, with Wallace having two interceptions and completing less than 50% of his passes. If history holds true, we could be in for a small upset in Oxford.  But one small ATS sample of a QB is not my deciding factor in choosing Ole Miss (although it doesn’t hurt), here are a few building blocks I like:

  • Home Cooking: Ole Miss is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games at home vs Miss State.
  • Defense: The Rebels are 11th overall in defense and #1 in points allowed and…
  • 13th overall in passing defense, giving up under 180 yards per game.
  • Revenge: I know, it’s a rival game and I don’t want to put too much emphasis into it, but I love it when I have a Senior QB playing and over 80% of the starting defense back, to redeem an overtime loss.

I expect both teams to play very hard, but I’m going to take the better defense and the home field.  “Go Rebels”!

Consider: Ole Miss +2.5
