2014 SEC Power Rankings – Week Eight

SEC EAST

1. Georgia (5-1, 3-1 SEC) – The Bulldogs rolled in their last outing despite losing Heisman candidate Todd Gurley to a suspension. They’re at the top of the East until someone knocks them off.

Next game: Saturday, October 18th at Arkansas. Lookout for the upset.

2. Kentucky (5-1, 2-1 SEC) – The Wildcats continue to win despite everyone continuing to bet against them. They face a very difficult matchup this weekend in Death Valley.

Next game: Saturday, October 18th at LSU. Strange things happen in Death Valley at night.

3. Missouri (4-2, 1-1 SEC) – It’s not often that a team loses 34-0 at home and is No. 3 in a power rankings but that’s what we’ve got here. The Tigers have got to rebound fast or they’ll fall behind.

Next game: Saturday, October 18th at Florida.

4. Florida (3-2, 2-2 SEC) – It’s do or die for Will Muschamp and the Gators as they’ll try to rebound from a tough loss to LSU last weekend.

Next game: Saturday, October 18th against Missouri in an elimination game.

5. Tennessee (3-3, 0-2 SEC) – The Volunteers finally got back into the win column with their 45-10 victory over UT-Chattanooga last weekend. They’ll be playing for the upset this weekend as they look to continue their momentum going forward.

Next game: Saturday, October 18th at Ole Miss.

6. South Carolina (3-3, 0-2 SEC) – The Gamecocks head back to the field after their bye week to regroup and attempt to salvage what’s left of their season.

Next game: Saturday, October 18th against Furman. They’ll win.

7. Vanderbilt (2-5, 0-4 SEC) – The Commodores are off this week after notching their second win of the season last weekend against Charleston Southern.

Next game: Saturday, October 25th at Missouri.

SEC WEST

1(a). Mississippi State (6-0, 3-0 SEC) – The Bulldogs continue to surprise, while Dak Prescott keeps inching towards the Heisman. I for one, was wrong about these Bulldogs.

Next game: Saturday, October 25th at Kentucky.

1(b). Ole Miss (6-0, 3-0 SEC) – The Rebels are sitting pretty in the West, but they’re in the meat of their schedule. Will they survive it? The “Landshark D” is impressive.

Next game: Saturday, October 18th against Tennessee.

3. Auburn (5-1, 2-1 SEC) – Even though the Tigers suffered their first loss over the weekend, they get No. 3 spot because of Alabama’s ugly win over Arkansas. I also trust their offense a little more.

Next game: Saturday, October 25th against South Carolina.

4. Alabama (5-1, 2-1 SEC) – The Crimson Tide haven’t been this low in what, a decade? Someone should go find Lane Kiffin and the Tide’s offense.

Next game: Saturday, October 18th against Texas A&M.

5. Texas A&M (5-2, 2-2 SEC) – The Aggies succumbed to the Rebels over the weekend but now isn’t the time to rest as a trip to Tuscaloosa awaits.

Next game: Saturday, October 18th at Alabama.

6. LSU (5-2, 1-2 SEC) – The Tigers got lucky against the Gators in their 30-27 win in The Swamp and they know it. They’ve got an interesting matchup this Saturday as well.

Next game: Saturday, October 18th against Kentucky.

7. Arkansas (3-3, 0-3 SEC) – It can only be said so much: If the Razorbacks were in the East, they’d be at the top. In the West though, they’re last and they still are unable to catch a break.

Next game: Saturday, October 18th against Georgia.
