College Football Week 9 Quick Hitters – Betting Nuggets and Featured Pick

Last week’s betting nuggets turned out to real, legitimate gold after it was all said and done. The only big “fool’s gold” of the week was in the featured pick (Wyoming), making those picks 2-3 ATS on the year. The rest of last week’s results along with year-to-date totals are shown below. (YTD “recommended” totals start from week #6, when the “Quick Hitters” format changed to give situational recommendations).

I love Penn State this week too. The Buckeyes haven’t proven that they can put a team away like a top 5 team should. It’s hard to imagine Ohio State winning by at least three scores.

thats exactly what they want you to think with that line, begging you to take penn st.

Just because this line sits above the key number of 14, doesn’t mean that Sportsbooks are trying to sucker people into taking PSU.

My guess is that they have had a fair amount of “public money” supporting OSU as a top 5 team at home vs a non-ranked team, and setting the line at 14.5/15 is their way of “evening out” the money closer to 50/50.

Either way, it doesn’t really discourage my selection, and my reasons for making that pick. I pretty much just see that extra 1/2 point as a bonus on top of what I thought was already a good line for PSU in this one.

I did consider the “trap scenario” you outlined, but I don’t really think it is applicable in this scenario for the reasons I pointed out.

The line opened at 14.5 so the hook means absolutely nothing.
