Jimmysingh: College Football Insights Week # 6

Texas -9.5 over Iowa St
I have Iowa St as the worst team in the Big 12. They have showed poorly in their first two games and was actually lucky that they ended up a team that is worse than them in Tulsa this past week. Texas comes in with a win at home over Kansas St and coming off a bye where they can hopefully build things leading up to their Red River Rivalry matchup in two weeks. I said before the Kansas St game that that was the last chance for Texas to right the ship as they were just starting Big 12 play and it’s their last motivational chip on the season. They will look to build on that momentum here and hopefully this is long enough away that they are not looking ahead to Oklahoma. Iowa St is the perfect matchup for Texas. They really present them no problems, They will not be able to spread it out and beat Texas with any speed. Texas should dominate the trenches big time here and I really seem this being a stroll in the park. The books will give us value with the traditional Thursday night home dog trend, but it shouldn’t do any good here.
UCLA -4 over Utah
I have this UCLA team as a top 10 team in the country and they are also coming off a bye going to Utah. This is a typical game where I could see the Thursday night home crowd helping out Utah a bit but Utah doesn’t have the players or the schemes to keep up with UCLA in the end. Their defense isn’t elite at all and will give up big plays and their offense is still a little stagnant to me even though they have scored a handful of points. This opens up Pac 12 play for UCLA and they should be ready for a hostile crowd. They showed me alot coming of a death of a teammate and going into one of the worst spots of the year where Nebraska had revenge factor in addition for it being a 9am PST start for UCLA. UCLA started slow there but then just blasted Nebraska. I think that game will help them deal with any road woes and I see UCLA opening it up in the 2nd half and winning quite easily.
Oklahoma -10.5 over TCU

Iowa State isn’t the worst team in the Big 12, Kansas is. But their close. The difference is Iowa State has a much much better coach than Kansas. As for this Texas game, Ash isn’t playing this weekend. Actually I’m kind of worried about the kid. He’s had two serious head injuries this year. They brought him back too fast for the Kansas St. game when UT desperately needed a win. And now they’re probably saving him for OU. But he’s only one hard hit from the funny farm.
Speaking of funny farm, UT will be starting Case McCoy. You know, the McCoy brother who got the short end of the stick. Ash actually had a great game against Iowa State last season. But Case McCoy on the road in a Thursday night ESPN game? I don’t know, it’s a coin flip what this kid will do.
Also with AD Deloss Dodds looking like he is finally gone, meaning Mack is likely to be relieved of his duties by the end of the year, and the players know this. Do they play extra hard for the coach to not get their azz kicked again? One thing is for sure, it’s going to affect their play one way or another. Tough game to get a handle on.
I’m actually liking Iowa State here. Iowa State tends to be an “upset” minded team. Like you stated, Texas is in a funk right now with everything going on inside and outside of the program. With a big game with Oklahoma on deck, it can’t help their focus any.
I have been just sitting back and watching the line on this one, but I may be jumping on Iowa State real soon.
