Maggiore’s College Football Picks – Week # 1
This season is finally here! I have a total of 4 plays this week with 2 of those being my top premium plays while the others are regular one unit plays. The first couple weeks of the year the write-ups will be short and the units will be slightly smaller as we learn more about these teams in 2013. Let’s get it!
Regular Plays
Purdue (+10.5) over Cincinnati
New Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell gets a tough start to his tenure in West Lafayette. There is also a new coach on the other sideline as Tommy Tuberville takes over at UC. The Bearcats still don’t know who will start at quarterback and I think there is a lot of uncertainty for them to be laying 10+ points to what should be a solid, yet unspectacular, Purdue squad. This will not be a big play, but I will have 1 unit on the Boilermakers.
Ohio State (-34) over Buffalo
Year 2 of the Urban Meyer era kicks off in Columbus and the Buckeyes are loaded on offense. Braxton Miller is back to defend Big Ten player of the year award and is surrounded by a ton of young speedy playmakers. The Bucks do have some talent to replace on the defensive front, but the talent is there to control a pedestrian Buffalo offense. By principle, I hate to lay this many points early in the season, but OSU will not let off the gas as their preconference schedule is not tough and they have a lot of youth foaming at the bit to show what they can do in the Shoe. Coach Meyer has never hesitated to continue to score late in blowouts, and I don’t expect anything different on Saturday. I will have 1 unit on the Bucks.
