College Football Week 1 Quick Hitters: Trends, Stats, and Betting Nuggets
The college football season is finally here! As I mentioned on twitter yesterday, the “kid on the night before Christmas” analogy doesn’t accurately reflect my excitement level for this NCAA season. However, in spirit of that comparison, I wrote a poem last night attempting to encapsulate my college football hysteria. Here it is:
Twas the night before college football and all through the nation,
everyone was laughing about the news from College Station.
For Johnny Football only received a proverbial slap on the wrist,
making any non-Aggie football fan more than “just pissed”.
But tomorrow will kick off the college football season,
exterminating these preseason stories often devoid of reason.
The speculation is over and the games will finally begin,
Happy college football kickoff to all, and may all your wagers win!
So with that, let’s get to the opening week “Quick Hitters”. In case you are new to this segment, this article will point out the top betting nuggets of the week by identifying top trends, stats, and situations to be aware of. As I mention every week, it is important to remember that these trends and stats are only one piece of the puzzle when trying to figure out which team to place a wager on. They shouldn’t be followed blindly, but instead they should be considered and factored into the broader context and reasoning for selecting a side.
As mentioned in my weekly column I have Minny as a “Surprise” ATS team this yr…hope it starts off right tonite
On paper, Minny has the upperhand in almost every facet of this game. If they can’t take care of business tonight, it may be a troubling sign for Jerry Kill’s squad.
No featured pick this year??
Not this week, but it will be back at some point. All the other TSE cappers have the “featured-worthy” games covered for this week. Hint, hint.
As Trent so often does, take a comparison look at the Miami, OH – Marshall total (67) and compare it to the UGA-Clemson total (currently 71).
MOH had the 103rd ranked scoring D in the country & Marshall had the 2nd to worst (#123). By contrast UGA was #18 & Clemson #46.
Week 1 review: Sharp picks went 3-0. Look ahead spots went 2-1.
