College football odds to win the PAC-12 North
College football odds to win each conference, and each conference division were released in mid-May and I did an article on the PAC-12 soon thereafter. Now with the release of our PAC-12 Betting Prospectus I wanted to review the latest odds to win the Conference of Champions, starting with the North Division.
1. Oregon +100
I believe Oregon and Stanford are a toss-up in the North and the winner of their November 7th showdown in Palo Alto most likely wins the division. However, Oregon’s overall conference schedule is much easier than Stanford’s, so I understand why the Ducks have such low odds and are favored to win the division.
2. Stanford +250
This is still my pick to win the PAC-12 North and subsequently the conference title. This is the best team in the league in the trenches and they also happen to have a top-10 defense. If quarterback Kevin Hogan and a talented, but unproven group of receivers show any improvement in the passing game, this team could challenge for a spot in the national championship game.
3. Washington +300
Despite this being Steve Sarkisian’s deepest and most talented team in his Husky tenure, I still believe UW is a notch below Oregon and Stanford. However, the Huskies get Oregon in Seattle this year, and with Stanford’s difficult schedule, Washington could represent the North and sneak into the conference title game.
4. Oregon State +500
The Beavers have some holes to fill on the defensive side of the ball, but this is still a very good football team. Offensively they will be one of the top teams in the conference and are more than capable of springing an upset (or two?). They get both Stanford and Washington at home, but must travel to PAC-12 South co-favorite Arizona State and play the Civil War in Eugene.
5. California +1200
New head coach Sonny Dykes has a lot of young talent to work with in Berkeley. But the Golden Bears also have a lot of questions to answer, especially at the quarterback position. How well the new signal caller grasps the new “Bear Raid” will determine if Cal improves on last year’s dismal 3-9 season.
6. Washington State +1200
Mike Leach enters his second season on the Palouse, but he still doesn’t have much talent to work with. Quarterback could still be an issue and the offensive line was a nightmare in 2012. Defensively the Cougars may actually be respectable this season, but other than maybe Utah at home in late November, I don’t see this team being favored in any PAC-12 games.
Not much has changed in the PAC-12 North since college football odds to win each conference and division were posted nearly two months ago. Oregon is still the clear-cut favorite to win the division, with Stanford projected to finish second, followed closely by Washington.
