Florida International Football 2013 Spring Wrap Up
Florida International Football 2013 Spring Wrap Up
Spring summary
This is a team short on experience, a little longer on talent and far longer on the way to go as far as fully grasping the new multiple, pro-style offense head coach Ron Turner brings.
That’s to be expected as it’s a completely different offense than the conservative version of the spread that FIU ran for years. Start with the quarterback being under center most of the time. That caused some problems just with the snap.
Potential breakout players
Middle linebacker Patrick Jean, a sophomore, takes over the spot Winston Fraser held the previous two seasons and stood out to coaches in the spring.
Redshirt sophomore Dominique Rhymes, a rangy wide receiver who missed last season with a broken wrist, also stood out in spring.
Position grades
QB – C
RB – B-
WR – B+
OL – F (no experience, young, light and so few in numbers that they moved redshirt freshman defensive end Dieugot Joseph, who had never played offensive line in his life, to right tackle and he’s second string.),
DL – B
LB – B
DBs – B
Low expectations for 2013
This looks like what it is – a team that lost 30 seniors, most of them starters, and has a new coaching staff installing entirely new offensive and defensive systems. Anything more than 3-9, throw a parade.
