Anyone who follows UMass football knew that 2012 was going to be a long year. The university undertook the FBS upgrade with very little turnaround time and did so in the midst of the Kevin Morris era – a forgettable four-year period during which UMass fell from its place as a I-AA powerhouse to an average Colonial Athletic Association team.
